Autumn doesn’t get better than this! Shades of red, yellow and orange cover the rolling mountainsides as morning bathes the landscape in golden light at #GreatSmokyMountains National Park. As the most visited #nationalpark, Great Smoky attracts photographers from all over, and many find their way to the Oconoluftee Overlook for classic mountain sunrises like the one seen here. 🌄 Photo @greatsmokynps courtesy of Zack Knudsen (@zack_knudsen). #usinterior #findyourpark

It’s a great time to flock to #Sacramento National #WildlifeRefuge. An hour’s drive north of California’s state capital, the refuge provides critical habitat to migrating waterfowl. Duck and #geese numbers peak in November and December with huge groups filling the sky. It’s an amazing experience, and another great reason to #OptOutside. Here’s a stunning view of the newly reopened #TrunkBeach at Virgin Islands #NationalPark on the island of St. John. Today Trunk Beach -- along with Christiansted National Historic Site and Buck Island National Monument on the island of St. Croix -- reopened for the first time since being devastated hurricanes earlier this year. Employees have been working hard to reestablish operations for Caribbean national parks, which are vital to the U.S. Virgin Islands’ tourism economy. Last year alone, visitors to national parks in the U.S. Virgin Islands spent $70 million. Photo by #NationalPark Service. #usinterior #findyourpark

Here are some fall colors that won’t fade away. At #PetrifiedForest National Park in #Arizona, 200-million-year-old petrified logs lie strewn across rolling clay hills. Each piece is like a giant quartz crystal. As impurities like iron and carbon oxidized, they permanently colored these ancient trees shades of red, yellow and purple. It’s a rare and beautiful sight that you’ve got to see for yourself. Photo @petrifiedforestnps by #NationalPark Service. #FindYourPark #usinterior

Happy birthday, #Zion National Park! On this day in 1919, Zion #NationalPark was established. #Utah’s first national park, @zionnps protects some of the most scenic canyon country in the United States. It includes 229 square miles of high plateaus, a maze of sandstone canyons and waterfalls with colorful hanging gardens that are so stunning they look surreal. It doesn’t take long for fall to turn into winter at #Glacier National Park (@glaciernps) in #Montana. While the falling snow brings road closures and smaller crowds, it also opens the season for skiing and snowshoeing in the park. There are options for all ability levels and trails that offer access to spectacular scenery cloaked in winter’s blanket of white. Photo by Jacob W. #BearRiver Migratory Bird Refuge in #Utah is an oasis for waterbirds and #wildlife. The #wildliferefuge protects the marshes found at the mouth of the Bear River -- the largest freshwater component of the Great Salt Lake ecosystem -- and provides critical habitat for over 250 species of migratory birds that move through the area annually by the millions to rest and feed. It’s #NationalTakeAHikeDay! Some of the best places in the country to enjoy a walk outdoors are on public lands. National parks, wildlife refuges and recreation areas -- as well as National Scenic Trails, National Recreation Trails and National Historic Trails -- are amazing places to exercise, marvel at stunning landscapes, learn incredible stories and make lasting memories. Here’s a great view from the famous South Kaibab Trail at #GrandCanyon National Park in #Arizona. Where will you #FindYourWay? Table Rock #Wilderness in #Oregon is a steep and rugged terrain with a quiet forest of Douglas fir and western hemlock, crowds of rhododendron on many of the upper slopes and an island of old growth in an ocean of forest development. A remnant of a lava flow that once covered this region along the western foothills of the Cascades, the "fortress" of #TableRock stands at 4,881 feet above the northeastern portion of this small wilderness.
