Exfoliating is probably one of my favourite things to do because it delivers real and visible results but too much exfoliating can be really damaging to the skin. Over exfoliation happens when you either scrub too hard with manual exfoliants or by using too many chemical exfoliants at once. By exfoliating too much you can impair the hydrolipid barrier (the mixture of sweat and sebum that protects your skin from the outside world) Impaired barrier function cause cause a lot of horrible side effects like redness, dry patches, sensitivity and irritation. You might even find yourself with Atopic dermatitis (eczema) for the first time I have personally done this to myself before by accident and it isn't fun! The products that I used on a regular basic stung and irritated my skin even a basic hyaluronic acid and moisturiser hurt. It's important that we exfoliate but remember not to do it too much as we don't want to ruin our hydrolipid barrier . . . . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #naturalskincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #theskincaresaviourdailytips #skincaretips #exfoliation #overexfoliation #hydrolipidbarrier #acidmantle

I have been obsessed with this eye cream by @firstaidbeauty I found in the Marks and Spencer Beauty Hall a few weeks ago. Eye Duty Triple Remedy is more of a day eye cream as it contains a tint to it which I absolutely love because I don't always want to wear proper makeup This is in the colour fair/medium and is perfect for my skin tone Eye Duty Triple Remedy is said to brighten, depuff and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. It contains retinyl palmitate which is known for its skin smoothing properties all though it is in the retinol family it's the weakest version and doesn't have a big impact on the lower levels of the skin since it's so weak it's more of a surface cosmetic benefit It also contains a know vasoconstrictor Caffeine which helps to construct blood vessels to depuff and smooth out the undereye area I tend to have quite puffy undereyes so Caffeine is go to for me. What's your favourite eye cream for the day time? . . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #naturalskincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #skincareingredients #firstaidbeauty #eyecream #caffine #skincarescience

We place so much emphasis on treating out facial skin that we often forget about our scalp and body these are just as important as our face and deserve the same level of TLC. I always love using hair masks to help nourish and take care of my scalp as a healthy scalp will allow optimal hair growth as well healthy hair. I think sometimes we forget about our bodies and just stick to washing and using a shower gel and forget to use a body M moisturiser well. @alphahskincare does this fantastic Glycolic acid body soap that I have been using for quite a while What do you do to take care of your scalp and body? . . . . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #naturalskincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #theskincaresaviourdailytips #skincaretips #bodycare #scalpcare #skincarescience

*GIFTED I have been on the fence about @sundayriley Juno for a while but I think now that I've been using it for quite sometime I actually like using it. I feel like Juno paired with all of the actives I use compliment each other really well as the actives I use can dry out your skin so it's nice to have an oil that helps to restore some of that moisture as well as nourish my skin I really like that Sunday Riley gives you the small bottles as its great to try something out before committing to one of the larger bottles which no lie are rather expensive. Have you use any of the Sunday Riley oils? Which ones do you like? . . . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #naturalskincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #skincareingredients #sundayriley #sundayrileyjuno #skincareaddict #wakeupandmakeup #facialoil #skincareoil

When we are thinking about what to use in a skincare routine we always go for the hard hitters like retinol, glycolic acid and vitamin C but we can sometimes forget something really valuable. Hyaluronic acid! 🙌 So not only does this wonder ingredient help to hydrate the skin by drawing moisture to itself, it actually plumps up the skin😱 Personally I feel like hyaluronic acid is one of a few instance result type products where you apply it and can see results straight away. Hyaluronic acid will plump up and fill any lines and wrinkles superficially because as we get older our skin starts to sag and become dryer and we produce less natural hyaluronic acid that in conjunction with a loss in collagen and elastin to help to keep the skin plump and firm. Not just anyone old hyaluronic acid will do there are different types low molecularweight and high molecular weight. Low molecular HA can penetrate deeper into the skin effecting more change in the epidermis and a high molecular weight HA focuses more on the surface level of skin. . . . . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #naturalskincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #theskincaresaviourdailytips #skincaretips #hyaluronicacid #antiaging #lowmolecularha #highmolecularHA

*GIFTED If you’ve followed me for any length of time you’ll know im a massive fan of Acid Toning, i feel like there are many more benefits than conventional physical exfoliation. @officialmedik8 Pore Minimising Tonic is great for using just after you cleanse as it will help to minimise the appearance of pores. Contrary to popular myth pores do not open or close they only look large and open because they are congested with a mixture of sebum and dead skin cells. This acid tone is a combination of both Lactic and Mandelic acids which are known to be more gentle on the skin than Glycolic tends to be. Imagine Lactic Acid as as little pac men that eat up all of the dead skin cells. Lactic acid is great for dry skin as it is known as the hydrating acid. Mandelic acid is a great exfoliant it’s not as effective as glycolic due to its size (twice as large) since Mandelic is rather new there isn’t much research on it just now. The only problem is I'm not sure what the percentage is of this product it could be as low as 5% but there doesn't seem to be anything that explains the strength. Usually with a glycolic toner I feel a tingle but with this I didn’t feel anything which is great because If you've been following me for a whole you'll know that i have been use prescription strength retinoidl and I have to be careful now since my skin is a little more sensitised. . . . . #medik8 #skincare #skincarejunkie #mandelicacid #lacticacid #glasgowblogger #sunscreen #skintellectual #bloggerstribe #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincareaddict #Skincarecommunity #soincareblogger #instabeauty #bbloggers #aha #alphahydroxyacid #facialistglasgow #skynglasgow #facial

I always see people saying "your skin needs to breathe" which is a complete fallacy. The skin has absolutely no mechanism for respiration, you can't suffocate your skin because it isn't connected to your reservation system. I honestly feel like this myth came from the movie Goldfinger where the Bind girl is completely painted gold and apparently she suffocated even though her mouth wasn't obstructed 🙄😒 No matter what you put on your skin it's not going to suffocate it so when someone tells you that you need to let your skin breathe because you wear too much makeup you can either laugh at them or tell them to piss off 😂😂 . . . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #theskincaresaviourdailytips #skincaretips

I love a good nourishing moisturiser that is hydrating and repairing because I often use a lot of skincare products it's why I love the Cerave Moisturisers as well. I think that's why I'm in love with the @katesomervilleskincare Nourish Moisturiser, everyone ive let try this has said they loved it as well. You would think a nourishing moisturiser would be really occlusive and thick but this is actually rather thin in texture compared to other moisturisers. I really like how once applied it doesn't leave a sticky film on the skin it just sinks away and leaves an almost semi matte finish. This moisturiser contains a mixture of glycerin, peptides, vitamin e, THD ascorbate, Retinyl Palmitate. So not only will this hydrate and soothe it will also smooth and hopefully brighten as well due to the THD ascorbate. . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #naturalskincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #skincareingredients #katesomerville #moisturiser #skincareaddict #wakeupandmakeup #nourishmoisturizer #katesomervillenourish

I often see a lot of brands describing their products as "having a lifting effect" which is bullshit. A skincare product no matter how much you want it to can't beat gravity. There is no way for skincare products to lift your skin back. Also avoid this new gimmick of "anti-gravity" skincare if the best scientists who work on space shuttles cant generate artificial gravity then what's the chanc3 a skincare company solved the problem of anti-gravity 🙄😒 The best thing to look for are products that stimulate collagen growth like retinol, glycolic acid etc these actually stimulate the fibroblasts cells deep in the dermis which essentially give collagen a kick up the arse to keep working like they used to hold up your skin. . . . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #naturalskincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #theskincaresaviourdailytips #skincaretips #liftingandfirming #liftingskincare #antigravityskin

*Gifted - I'm not usually a fan of manual exfoliation because it's so easy to go overboard. I've been using the new @merumaya Mineral Cleansing Paste since it launched and now that I've been using it for a couple of months I really like it! Merumaya describes this cleanser as the first of its kind, packed with minerals that boost skin function, while giving the cleanest cleanse and the gentlest exfoliation. Usually when we see these types of cleansers that exfoliate they contain microbeads well not here! What you have in this cleanser are super fine crystals that buff the skin gently to exfoliate while the minerals of Zinc, Magnesium, Copper, Iron and Silicone help to balance and boost the skin function over time This cleanser is perfect for all skin types and ages although i do feel like it would work best for a dry skin/dehydrated because it is not only a really good exfoliator it helps to hydrate the skin as well as it contains Sweet Almond and Allantoin. . . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #naturalskincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #skincareingredients #merumaya #cleanser #skincareaddict #wakeupandmakeup #facialcleanser #merumayaskincare

It's often in our nature to believe that a more expensive product will be better but that isn't always the case. Take two very different examples La Mer and The Ordinary, in my opinion The Ordinary is the better brand even though it's much cheaper they have much more to offer in terms of results based in science whereas La Mer is essentially Nivea cream in a pretty pot sold for extortionate amounts of money with very little research to back up its claims. It's important to shop around when buying skincare don't limit yourself to expensive department stores because some of my favourite products come from drugstores like @biodermauk @larocheposayuki and @ceraveuki etc also give indie brands a go like @jordansamuelskin, @pestleandmortarcosmetics, @fprescottskin . . . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #naturalskincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #theskincaresaviourdailytips #skincaretips

*Gifted* If there’s one type of product I will always love it’s a good cleanser! . I’m of the firm belief that if you get your cleanser right it helps your whole routine, get it wrong and your whole routine is messed up. Meet the @s5skincare Neutralise cleanser. S5 is a natural brand made in small batches in Hertfordshire. S5 is designed to solve skin issues. Laura (the owner) has devoted years of her life into the research of harnessing the most effective bioactives found in nature. This cleanser is specifically for oily sensitive skin. I do have a combination oily skin I’m not sensitive but I have enjoyed using it whilst on prescription retinol (Adapalene) Neutralise Cleanser is a lightweight oil free cleanser that contains African Moringa Peptides which help to remove micro particles and protect against pollution and Prickly Pear Cactus Extract which helps to hydrate the skin and soothe any irritation. What I don't understand about this cleanser is it feels like your traditional oil cleanser but apparently it's oil free so I'm having a hard time getting my head around that. The texture has completely stumped me! You will need to use a face cloth with this cleaner as it doesn’t contain many emulsifiers so it won’t emulsify when water is added. I really like using this as a first cleanse as it works great at removing makeup and SPF 🙌🏻❤️ . . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #naturalskincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #skincareingredients #s5skincare #cleanser #skincareaddict #wakeupandmakeup #facialcleanser

A lot of people will generally stop using a product if it breaks them out but this isn't the right attitude to have as some products can cause what is known as purging and this isn't a bad thing. Imagine the saying "it gets worse before it gets better" Purging happens when we use products that speed up cell turnover e.g. AHA's, BHA's, Retinol etc as you at speeding up your skins renewal factor so anything that is hiding under the skin I going to be pushed to the surface this includes acne. If you are using anything that speeds up cell turnover and breaks you out it's not a bad thing it's just something you have to push past it should only last a week or 2 at most anything beyond that is likely irritation. It's so important for us to understand the mechanisms of the skin so we don't throw a product out because "it broke you out" when it was actually just doing its job. . . . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #naturalskincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #theskincaresaviourdailytips #skincaretips #aha #bha #alphahydroxyacids #betahydroxyacid #retinol #cellturnover #exfoliation #purging

You might think that it's a good idea to use these cans of water often known as "Thermal Water Sprays" but these can actually dehydrate the skin. When we spray water or even leave water on our skin after cleansing it can dehydrate the skin by pulling water up from the lower dermal levels of the skin. I like to use hydrating mists like the Multi Active Toner from. @dermalogicauk, @muradskincareuk Hydrating Toner or the @Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist. This way we can hydrate the skin without drying it out 🙌🏻❤️ . . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #naturalskincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #theskincaresaviourdailytips #skincaretips #hydratingmist #hydratingtoner #thermalwaterspray

I spoke about how much I love the @fprescottskin Tri Balm in my top products of 2018 blog post and I was recently sent a new one to try. Usually I hate when the products I love change but I'm totally here for this change. Not only has the packaging changed its more rounded now with the addition of "3 in 1" although this does claim to cleanse, hydrate and exfoliate I do feel like you should still hydrate and exfoliate separately too. The only thing that has really changed is the texture of the cleanser the only problem I ever had with this was that it was to squishy there was no substance to it the slightest bit of heat and it would melt but not they have tweaked the formula so that the oil is harder and from using it the past few days it's definitely holds itself together better than before and I find I'm using less product which is great! . . . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #naturalskincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #skincareingredients #tribalm #francesprescott #facecleanser #stickcleanser #oilcleanser

It's a common misunderstand that a lot of people hold when they say you can't use products like Vitamin C and Niacinamide or Retinol and AHAs together it's actually not true. You'll find the opposite is actually true Niacinamide boosts the efficacy of Vitamin C they are work really well together. The misunderstanding that they'll cancel each other out, rendering both formulas ineffective is not true this won't happen the other fear that niacinamide and an acid can hydrolyze into nicotinic acid is not true either. The results from the study that show this are from 1960! Not only were the results misunderstood the study is from almost 60 years we have made leaps and bounds in product formulation since then. Retinol and AHAs can be used together as well you'll find that AHAs again boost the efficacy of retinol because it can easily be absorbed into the skin post exfoliation. When I see a post by someone on here saying never use a AHA and retinol together it's never backed with research and when pressed for sources they can't provide any because guess what...there is no research that says you can't use them together. . . . . #bbloggers #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #skincarejunkie #beautyblog #glasgowblogger #skincare #beautyguru #beautyjunkie #beautyblog #beautyblogger #scottishbloggers #shinyhappybloggers #skincare #naturalskincare #wakeupandmakeup #skincareaddict #skincarecommunity #theskincaresaviourdailytips #skincaretips #vitaminc #retinol #niacinamide #aha #alphahydroxyacids #skincareingredients
