Second portrait of Actress Natalie Dormer @nataliedormerig shot for the Zurich Film Festival @zurichfilmfestival last year. I absolutely love close ups and shoot all of them with my 80mm lens, which also means that I am suuuuper close to my subject. While I usually would say the 120mm lens is better for portraits, I use the 80mm for two reasons. The main reason is, and I’ve learned that from Marco Grob, that being so close to a subject almost always provokes a reaction from the subject because you are entering their intimacy sphere. So we test the light, put marks on the floor for the subject, pre focus the lens and then ask the subject to step in. Once everything is ready, I ask the subject to look at me, take my cam, make a step forward to my mark and start shooting. Entering someone’s intimacy sphere is a risky thing, especially with high profile people, but I always take the risk and only once got in trouble as the subject didn’t feel comfortable. Like the other portrait of Natalie I am not too happy how it looks on the small phone screen but that’s just how it is. So over all..it was a great time, the crew was fantastic and it was a very special feeling of being so close to a Hollywood star. .
