I can still remember the first time I performed a dumbbell row more than two decades ago.
There was definitely uncertainty of whether my form was correct, the physical difficultly of the exercise, and the mental concentration that was all taking place.
I started asking myself these immediate questions: How often can I dedicate myself to this? When would I start to see results? When would I become stronger to use heavier weights?
Of course, the weight that I used that day was definitely nothing to brag about to anyone at the time, however, I was able to channel something deeper inside myself that day before the #exercise was over.
It was an #emotional untapped #strength that I used from within myself; certainly not against myself. What I learned quickly in the weight room that day is that mastering such a feat is truly a battle within yourself and no one else. At the time, I definitely didn’t understand all of my emotional strengths fully, yet it took something that was incredibly challenging physically for me to start to feel transformed emotionally.
Belief, consistency, drive, passion, and hard work are what followed, while embracing the multitude of emotions (the good, bad, and the ugly) that we all have in our daily lives, with much more sprinkled in.
From 20 pounds to 120 pounds, from weakness to strength, and from uncertainty to peace; the experience of a fitness journey truly is awesome.
If you haven’t started your own fitness journey, I urge you to start today. The pride that’s awaiting you is indescribable…
