☀️In week 7 of #AshtangaMondays we focus on #parsvottanasana . Today we're looking into the last pose of the six fundamentals. Whatever series you're practicing – the practice is always initiated with Surya Namaskara and these. From samastithi we step to the side and turn the right foot facing the back of the mat, while the left is in a 85-90 degree angle. Bring your hands behind your back into prayer hands. Hips and chest forward, draw the shoulders back to open the chest. Gaze at the tip of the nose. Exhale, fold forward. Work on bringing your chin to the shin over time. Straight active legs. Draw in uddiyana bandha to open the chest and get closer to your thighs. Stay five breaths. Inhale, come up, turn to the other side, keep hands in prayer position behind your back and exhale, fold down towards your left leg. I'm finally back to share my beautiful SPLIT journey 😛😃 I have always had this dream to someday achieve a split. So when I was practicing I thought let's just give it a try and unbelievably here I am doing it😀 Like I always said it's not as simple as it looks. Needs a lot of regular practice to get there. I would also say that practice might seem the hardest but later progress will be equally the sweetest 😀 To be honest, seriously never thought I would do a "split" in my life. I am literally the happiest person on the planet right now 😅 because I believe in the saying "happiness is enjoying the little things in life". I truly believe that @bodhiyogaandwellness has the power to actually make you do the incredible things which will definitely make you super happy. Special thanks to my sir @bodhi_yoga_academy who has always given me the confidence to do it until I achieved it and that's what got me here, I think this wouldn't have been possible without his encouragement each day. . Now I would need to see each of you practicing to determine the specific cause of the neck pain BUT there are a few problems are common among people struggling with this pose: 💧 not enough support with their shoulders, back and core stabiliser muscles so they end up placing all their weight into their head and neck compressing through their cervical spine. 💧a lack of shoulder flexibility so they can’t keep their elbows grounded, meaning they can’t push down into the floor properly through their forearms, so they have to crane their neck or compensate in their head position to try and get their hips up and elbows down. . . swipe left to see my YouTube Tutorial preview! - (check my bio and latest stories for full video link!) . Exercises: . 1 - flexibility shoulder stretch. Openness of shoulders is important for headstand as well as progressing into other inversions. Work through puppy while adding flexion into your spine (think hollowchest and low ribs knitting down and in) to target your shoulder specifically and practice your straight line. . 2 - shoulder strengthening: practice loving into dolphin and tucking your head through your arms. Keep the head off the floor and PUSH away through the forearms. Extend from the shoulders and keep those ribs knitting down and the belly button pulling in to stay engaged in your core. At the Yoga in Healthcare conference held at Westminster University, London this past weekend it was announced that some of the additional funding pledged under the NHS Long Term Plan would be spent on yoga classes for patients. In a written address, Prince Charles stated that yoga could help save "precious and expensive" NHS resources due to the "proven beneficial effects on both body and mind". He said, "For thousands of years, millions of people have experienced yoga's ability to improve their lives … The development of therapeutic, evidence-based yoga is, I believe, an excellent example of how yoga can contribute to health and healing. Yoga classes have "tremendous social benefits" and build "discipline, self-reliance and self-care", which contributes to general overall well being. "This not only benefits the individual, but also conserves precious and expensive health resources for others where and when they are most needed."

🐕 | And here we have the final pose of the #LunarYogiacs challenge - Downward Dog for the Year of the Dog. So happy to complete this challenge! For this post, no random facts about dogs but a shoutout to the three dogs in my life who have all passed: Jimmy, our three-legged (ran over by a car) Australian Terrier; Ben the ferocious Rottweiler (who attacked Jimmy and left him for dead); and Ah-Boy, my sister's Miniature Schnauzer (who passed after a lifetime of epileptic seizures). Talk about a dog's life! Come to think of it, maybe it's a good thing I've turned into a cat person. Healing is not something that comes into fruition overnight. The most beautiful part of healing is the promise of a new day - a divine chance to start over, and a new opportunity to show up for yourself. When you choose to rise in the face of hardships, you are illuminating grace in the face of uncertainty - and that can be utterly terrifying. On the other hand, this opportunity changes us - and opens us up to our friend, vulnerability. Like @brenebrown says; “The willingness to show up changes us, it makes us a little braver each time.” Choose to be brave when the world rests on your shoulders. Choose to overcome difficulties for the treasure of attaining of inner peace. Choose to heal when hopelessness is present. And above all, do this for yourself, and nothing/nobody else. You hold your own key to unlock the freedom coming from within - and nobody can take that away from you. This healing process is innately ours for the keeping and something that should be celebrated. Practise where ever you go and at whatever opportunity you get. You cannot always have a dedicated hour or place for practise but if you use all the little opportunities you get to do your aasans it all will compound and you are in the game.
