A few months ago I found out that a herd of buffalo live on an island in the Great Salt Lake. I really wanted to get some photos of buffalo in the winter and my Yellowstone plans had already been thwarted for the year so I decided I’d take any chance I could to get to that island.
About a week later my parents asked if I wanted to go with them to my grandpa’s birthday party near Salt Lake. That was my chance so I took it.
After the party, and a little bit of stand up comedy from my grandpa, my dad and I set off for the island. We only had an hour or two before sunset so I scoured the landscape for any sign of buffalo. Sometimes we’d see something that could be a buffalo so we’d stop the car and look through the binoculars only to find out it was a large rock.
Then I decided to look through the pamphlet they had given us at the entrance. Turns out the buffalo migrate to the other side of the island during winter and we’d need snowshoes or horses to reach them.
With light running out we decided to head to higher ground for a better view of the sunset. That’s when these were taken. Not the most spectacular sunset I’ve ever seen but it was definitely beautiful in its own way. I’ve never seen a sunset I didn’t like. #sunsetdawgs at Utah
