COMFORTABLE IN MY SKIN; EMBRACING MY AUTHENTICITY WITH COURAGE AND GRACE.🌺 Have you ever wished you could be in someone else’s skin? It appears that it’s a common struggle with people feeling uncomfortable in their own skin. This can lead to harsh self-criticism and social comparison. It’s okay to be dissatisfied with factors in your life, but we often believe those factors to be entirely our own fault. If we stop comparing ourselves to others by their careers, personal relationships, financial status, social life and so on, we will stop believing that we are failing. The standards we hold ourselves based on social media, TV shows, and magazines are impossible.
Imagine, someone who wishes they could have a different skin shade and struggles daily to accept themselves. Whether light or dark skin, some tan and some bleach their skin. I know several
persons who bleach their skin and it all began with their desire to become a little lighter to look like someone else. That desire turns into a little more and before you know it, their beautiful shade of brown turns into grey with their veins being so visible that a phlebotomist would never miss it! Skin bleaching is an epidemic. .
Do you think skin bleaching is a mental health issue?
How can we end the cycle of self-hatred, criticism, and low self-esteem? We must counteract these thoughts with everything that we find amazing about ourselves. We must begin to treat ourselves kindly and react to what we see as inadequacy with self acceptance and self love. Embrace your shade.
With courage and grace. -Sincerely Maxine Reyes
