Ribes sanguineum, red flowering currant, is one of the earliest spring bloomers, heralding the beginning of spring. The leaves have a spicy, sweet aroma making it popular with pollinators and hummingbirds. The berries were eaten by natives, but not considered tasty.
You can find this plant in open woods and forests. We've also planted some in Alton Baker and Awbrey Park.
