So, my husband and I have been together for 10 years this year. A whole decade. Sometimes it feels like we’ve been together so much longer, and other times it’s like it’s gone by in the blink of an eye.
We met on a (very) drunken night out. I was drunkety-drunk-drunk. If I hadn’t been, there would have been no way in hell that I’d have casually sauntered up and started a conversation with him. He was far too hot for me!
But saunter I did, and I’m so glad. I was getting to a point in my life where I never thought I’d find that person. MY person. I was in my mid-twenties and partying... a lot. And the partying was fun. But you know when you just want MORE than vapid, giggly, forgettable nights out from life? Well I was there.
We were together 4 years before he proposed and I was NOT expecting it. I never thought he’d do it to tell the truth. I was questioning if the relationship was going anywhere and was about to turn 30 and to be perfectly honest, I think I was having some sort of personal crisis! Work was shit which didn’t help - I was a salon owner at this point with 2 crazies as business partners! Anyway, I digress... He proposed at the top of a Munro, after a pretty tough climb - during which I might have repeatedly told him he was the worst climbing partner ever - and I think my first words after the proposal were “are you fucking serious?” I was THAT shocked. He is rarely romantic - and the top of a Munro is pretty special.
I took the ring, put it on and said fuck a few more times - but still don’t think I actually said yes... Did anyone else have a funny proposal story? I wouldn’t change mine for the world and him doing it in the way he did just showed me that he knew me better than I knew myself as for me, it was just perfect!
