A big shout out to everyone who pitched in with suggestions on how to deal with a sticky linen warp. Special thanks to Amanda @amandarataj and Justin @theburroughsgarret - you got me on the right track.
I used to work only with 2-ply linen yarn before, it behaves quite differently than single-ply linen yarn, which - I learned - wants to mingle and attach itself to other strands of yarn; it needs sizing with either a boiled flax seed or starch solution. Also, lease sticks at the back beam help to keep those raucous threads in order.
After finishing the first towel, I cut it off and retied the remaining warp, adding lease sticks and treating the warp with a boiled flax seed mixture.
For the size, I boiled 1/2 tbsp of flax seeds in 2 cups of water for 10 minute, strained it, and filled the mixture in a spray bottle. It's easy to apply and makes all the difference.
