Heart openers are my favourite poses.
I feel that they are essential to my well being.
We hold so much tension across our chest, bracing for whatever life might throw at us next. We can guard our hearts with such intensity that sometimes we forget to let love in and share love out.
Like so many, I have left myself wide open to heart break throughout my life and that has challenged my ability to stay open and vulnerable to love again.
To counter the pain, there have been times when I’ve chosen to close off my heart hoping to protect it, but this has never worked out very well either.
It’s a fine balance of give and take.
How do we love without being a fool to it?
I’m not sure I have the answer but recently I’ve been focusing my attention on the relationship I have with myself first and growing outward from there.
I truly believe that the way I value and treat myself determines the health of the love I give and receive.
When I’m unclear how to do this, I carve out time to move through some heart openers, releasing unnecessary tension and giving myself some big love.
