The Blue-ringed Octopus is by far my favourite of all cephalopods 💛
Even though these beautiful creatures are quite small, reaching a size of about 12 to 20cm, their appearance is what makes this octopus so special.
Their bright name giving blue rings will start flashing as a warning sign if they feel threatened.
As all other cephalopods they are able to change colour and skin patterns to match their surrounding and camouflage 💛
The Blue-ringed octopus is considered to be the second most poisonous marine animal after the Box Jellyfish. Its poison is 10.000 times more lethal than cyanide and is able to kill a human with a single bite.
Although these octopus are very shy and easily scared they should be approached with a certain amount of respect - give it enough personal space as it should be done with every other animal as well 💛 at Malapascua Island
