I continue to obsess over the (Dutch-inspired?) concept of the #urbanlivingroom. CDOT’s recent-ish redesign of a ~2km stretch of Devon Ave running through Chicago’s Little India neighborhood executes this concept beautifully. . Here, a street corner sidewalk has been widened to accommodate a pocket park, featuring benches oriented to facilitate social gatherings (when Chicago’s fickle meteorology permits of course; this photo happened to be taken on a particularly drizzly September evening). The result of installations like these? On warm summer nights, Devon is brimming with pedestrians, creating one of the most vibrant street scenes in the metro. Day 4 of my #FebruaryDesignStyleChallenge I call this one, “Classic Urban” ✨ The “saddle” leather sofa serves as the focal point of the space, with its rich warm tone. The asymmetrical cocktail table gives an ‘edgy’ vibe, while the tufted chair embraces a classic touch. ✨ Art is a key component in any space. It directs the flow of the furniture — cover the art up with your finger and think about what else could have been used there.. an image of a tree? What about a flower? Or a cityscape? How will that subject affect the flow of the overall room? It’s important to incorporate art that is not only relevant to the client’s personal taste, but it must support the vibe of the space or it can throw the entire room off. Thoughts?

Fun fact: behind it is painted the word "sienta" which translates: "feel", which also might mean "seat [yourself]" (or something alike).

Does it ever happen to you, that you come up with a cute centerpiece idea but then have to nix it? Well, we have too many little hands pulling and tearing at everything around here, and they forced me to come up with a new vignette for our coffee table. This the new replacement! I tried to incorporate different heights and textures and contain it all in this awesome and sturdy basket. I go gaga for a nice fireplace with a nice chunky mantel. However, our home doesn't have one, so this was the next best thing ☺ A floating shelf made a nice perch for some sweet pieces that would not distract from the TV. The storage underneath was a great pick from my mom's garage. I gave it some much needed love and stain. Formed in an area of reclaimed land, the design proposes a new raised level for a 1.2km sky garden - elevated above the roads to facilitate easy access above ground between adjacent plots.
