My 5th submission to the #natgeo100contest
5 days of living in the wilderness with no bed, no shower, no heating, and yet we all felt like home. The Erasmus+ project "Step in their shoes" offered us a deep connection with our primal self, spending 5 days in the Highlands of Scotland far away from anything that can be considered "civilization". It was just us and mother nature.
We witnessed the power of nature's elements. Unending wind battered our tents all day and rained poured on top of our heads. We learn to appreciate fire, like the first humans did, gathering around it with friends to discuss, cook or prepare a hot cup of tea. We saw the earth, in all of its majesty and beauty. Untouched by humans, free and wild.
We had the chance to see breathtaking, raw landscapes that made imagination fly away remembering fairytales we used to hear when we were kids. We hiked. We became friends, learned from each other and understood that what we need to be happy is far less than what we have come to believe. I know now that a clear night sky with the stars shining above, a small tent and some food is enough to make me feel joy.
This photograph was taken on the second night of our journey, with our tents shining on the ground and the stars sparkling on top of us. I want to devote it to all the participants of this project that made this a unique learning experience.
