Starting a new photo series I call "Reflecting Back" and I'm sure it's been done before, hehe.

I hope tobe taking photos of things about my province, country, or travels that show up reflecting back in my mirror and telling the story about them.
There's a push in Canada to replace these old mailboxes ASAP- mostly because of increasing mail theft. That's a shame, because whenever I pass one, I take notice and often stop to take a pic while I still can. It's funny how you can pass the same kinds of things all your life, and only one random day do you suddenly zero in on what it is you're looking at, with a new appreciation.
We watched our parents, grandparents, retrieve postcards, bills, flyers from these, often situated in the middle of a country road with not much else around. The days before email, texts, phones in our pockets- these boxes contained exciting news, heartbreaking news, catalogs with glossy pictures of shiny new things to order, letters from loved ones.
Now, with so much sent to us electronically, mailboxes are almost viewed as a nuisance, dumping out flyers and sorting through marketing to find anything of significance.
The sleek new mailboxes are cool and much less easy to break into, securing all our Amazon boxes, but as they take the place of these, they take with them tokens of our past. A little bit sad, really. #mailboxes #christyturnerphotography #history #canadianlandscapes #reflections #mirrors #oldgreenmailboxes #instanostalgia #canadiana #canucks #Alberta #yycphotographer #yyc #Alberta #travelalberta
