In 2016, @roxglick asked Women's Gathering attendees to describe how they smash patriarchy. She published the results on @bust_magazine. Over the next couple days, we'll be posting some of our favorite photos from that project. Here's Women's Gathering organizer @cynical.elle.woods getting her intersectional feminist theory on. . . . #smashpatriarchy #womensgathering #towomgath #womensgathering18 #intentionalcommunity #intentionalliving #twinoakscommunity at Twin Oaks Community

Daily reminder that your body is yours alone. For hundreds of years, women's bodies and time have been seen as public commodities. Fatphobia and beauty policing is so rampant because women's bodies must me marketable objects rather than subjectivities within themselves. Here is a reminder that saying "no" can be an act of self-love, of radical political defiance. Meet the organizers!! Hailing from Oregon, Lindsey moved to Twin Oaks in 2015 after exploring communities around the country. She enjoys photography, beekeeping, letter-writing, event co-organizing, tarot reading, growing heirloom seeds, playing board games, co-managing Twin Oaks’ soyfoods business, reading comic books, and monitoring microorganisms at the community’s tiny sewage treatment plant. . . . #womenincharge #womensgathering #womensgathering18 #towomgath #photographer #beekeeper #letterwriting #tarotreading #heirloomseeds at Twin Oaks Community

Meet the organizers!! Raised in Virginia, Emily came to live at Twin Oaks after attending the Women’s Gathering. After a long stretch of employment as a landscaper, she has come to enjoy communing with plant life in the forms of growing organic veggies in the garden, herbalism and spending time in the woods. A life long musician, she uses performance to come out of her shell. . . . #womenincharge #womensgathering #womensgathering18 #towomgath #intentionalcommunity #virginian #gardener #herbalist #musicianforlife #beltane at Twin Oaks Community

Our #WCW today is Emma Goldman, an early 20th century anarchist and feminist. While she is mainly known for her anarchist writing and activism, this work was intimately intertwined with ethnic & gender politics. She was a Russian Jew, a sex worker, and a survivor of sexual assault. Additionally, she was imprisoned for distributing literature about birth control. We 💕 Emma Goldman! -Julia . . . #feministanarchy #intersectionalfeminism #intentionalcommunity #womensgathering #womensgathering18 #TOwomgath at Twin Oaks Community

In honor of #WomensHistoryMonth, we'll also be sharing the profiles of some incredible feminists who have paved our way. Gloria Anzaldúa (1942-2004) was a Chicana feminist icon and scholar whose work continues to inform and inspire intersectional feminist theory today. As a lesbian growing up on the Texas side of the US-Mexico border, she experienced oppression both from the racism, homophobia, and misogyny of white American culture and from her own community's expectations of what a woman should be. Her 1987 book Borderlands/La Frontera explores life on thresholds, using English, Spanish, and even some Nahuatl to describe history & her place within it. Most importantly, Anzaldúa sought to be a bridge between her multiple cultures, hoping to close the "herrida abierta" of the tense Us/Mexico border. In times like these, her work seems more relevant than ever.
