First post for 2019! William is finally back, our animal’s health is somewhat under control, and the rest… well, we’re working on the rest. So, I know I might be 22 days too late but I really wanted to share with you my most favourite things of 2018. Ideally, this would’ve been a blog post written awhile ago but instead of making excuses or letting perfection kill it before it’s even born, I’ll just go ahead. Put the kettle on, grab a blanket and let’s revisit 2018 together.
Naturally, I’ll start with books (and I’ll cheat a bit because come on guys, I can’t narrow it down to only 3): 3 of my favourite books I read in 2018 by white authors: Annihilation, Undying: A Love Story (poetry), Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda.
3 books by black authors: The Hate U Give, The Autobiography of Malcolm X, And Still I Rise (poetry).
3 comic series/graphic novels: Black Hammer, Gideon Falls, Daytripper.
3 favourite indie bookshops I discovered last year: Scarthin Books (Peak District), Gay’s The Word (London), Salt’s Mill Bookshop (Yorkshire).
Moving onto favourite entertainment in 2018:
Movies: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Bird Box, Isle of Dogs.
Tv shows: The End of the F***ing World, Mr Mercedes (season 1), The Haunting of Hill House.
Next category is again so difficult to narrow and by now I’m really regretting not writing a blog post 🙈
3 favourite new spots in Yorkshire: Robin Hood’s Bay is a definite winner, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Skipton… and at least 10 other places.
And I’ll end with beauty:
3 products I was so happy to discover last year and now I swear by are: MOA Green Balm (I can list 30 different ways to use it and it’s all natural), Living Proof Full Dry Volume Blast (this is just magic!), Windle & Moodie Fortifying Shampoo (100% vegan, none of the horrible stuff, made in Yorkshire with rooibos tea and wheat protein). Gosh that was really hard to do and I wanted to mention so many things. Let me know in the comments if you think it’s not too late to write a blog post and you’d like to hear an extended version of this list. I’m really tempted to do it. What are your favourite things of 2018? Let me just grab a pen and paper… at Warley Town
