This was an amazing experience and clearly the best wine of the evening. I just love this expressive, high-precision and dark US Syrahs which seem to combine the new world opulence and the terroir-drivenness and cool expression of the old world. While I haven’t found such a wine in Central California, this hillside wine from Napa plays almost in the same league as the Bionic Frog from Cayuse (which tasting this wine blind was my guess). Worth any search and just exceptional. 98/100 points. On a side note: I had this wine 18 months ago and rated it 91/100 points as it showed wild, unbalanced and overripe and much more monolithic. Additional time in the bottle really helped here.
TN: Very intense dark olive paste, the purest form of a ripe fresh strawberry, lots of dark and some blue forest berries, smoked meat, volcanic minerality, wet dark earth, almonde purée, salty scents. All these different aromas are so intense and well defined. Just pure magic. Very good structure with a lot of very smooth tannins, a perfect acidity keeping it fresh. Good medium+ length.
Decanting: At this point a 90 mins decant should do the job.
