I think too many people forget about some of the other signs that monitor progress. How does your body look? How do you feel with in it? Take these two pictures. Both very similar weights yet look completely different. Now im not saying to rule out weighing yourself completely just dont fall into the trap of checking it too regularly and taking all the other signs for granted. Getting on the scales can easily become an unhealthy obsession. Remember fat takes up more volume than muscle. The visual difference in 5lbs of fat and 5lbs of muscle is quite considerable. I was just recently introduced to this exercise, a Powell raise. It looks easy and it’s nottttt 😂😂 at the end of 4 sets I dropped the weight to 5 lbs. you all get to appreciate my pain face! This exercise works upper back and rear delts. Give it a try. A set from a day of Singles from 2 weeks ago. 140kg x1 conventional. Few mistakes here, compare 2 freeze frames for reference. Didn’t take slack outta the bar (can tell because bar bent before it came off the ground) ,this meant when I pulled the slack out of the bar I was out of position and didn’t use enough leg drive. I have issues using leg drive in conventional and especially in sumo. One of the best ways to improve your strength is to build the crap out of your grip. If you can choke a bar and keep it under your full control, chances are that you’re not leaking much power. If you’re wobbling and slipping your grip constantly, it’s like your muscle can’t do the work it’s actually capable of. Looking back, there was a time where I couldn’t do one @fatgrip pull-up in my senior year of college, when they first came out. Now I can bang out sets of five. My weight hasn’t changed, and my biceps aren’t anywhere near as juicy as they were when they were #cardiofree , but I’m still getting stronger! Moral of the story: work through your weaknesses and humble yourself. Patting yourself on the back feels great, but mediocrity doesn’t. Address it, don’t whine about it! ・・・ DEADLIFT CORRECTION SESSION! . Tony come to me (@harmancoachingsystems) with a few low back issues regarding deadlifting and feeling like during the movement it becomes overly tight and somewhat painful... before I do the typical ... “that’s normal” I needed go asses his movement. What I was able to see was shoulders were slack at the start, pushing onto the toes and over extension at the spine which was causing the tightness. So what I done for Tony which I don’t normally do with clients is coach him from midway up then from the bottom up. The main reason for the pain was over extension at the lumbar spine... so I explained the weight needs to sit into the hips more and use more glutes and hamstrings at the top so they take the weight and not your low back. So from a small block we recoached ... retract your shoulder blades... sir your weight on your heels and open your chest up, and as you get to your knees fire the glutes in and tense them up! . That had instant gratification on his lower back and relinquished and pain he had! This has done a multitude of things, 1 being he’s now pain free deadlifting and 2 he now can self identify where he is getting that pain. Once we nailed that we went to full deadlifts again focusing on now from @ the bottom retract shoulder blades and close your armpits off, the open the chest up and at the knees push you glutes through! Which worked amazing and as you can see his movement is awesome! . From there we hit pause deadlifts which helped to encourage control and break both moments down and focus mainly on the technical points... we finished off with 2 upper back movements... seal rows and banded pull aparts for upper back, rear delts and rhomboid hypertrophy and then KB swings to condition and really fire up them glutes nad hamstrings! . This is my first time doing these #booty exercises with this thick of a loop band. Wow. Felt the glutes engaging big time! I do exercises like this circuit style . Each move for about 40 seconds. I set a timer and allow 10 seconds in between exercises to set up the next move. Rest one minute after a round and repeat 5 more times! 🙌.
