#Happy #InternationalHappinessDay ☺️ 👉What to when a meeting with a client, designer, or investor is going really bad?
👉How do you find value in their way of thinking and seeing things?
👉How do you handle sudden last-minute changes for a successful resolution?
One of my favorite tools is YES, AND… 💡YES, AND… or YES, AND… Thinking “ is an improv theatre rule that suggests that a participant should accept what another participant/s stated (“yes”) and then expand on that line of thinking (“and”). Opposing to “no, but”, YES, AND… encourages the contributors to share ideas, makes them feel important, valuable and validated, and allows for future openings in business and in the team/stakeholders working on the project.
DESIGNER: “These are the logos you requested from us”
CLIENT: “No, they’re not! They’re different from what I had in mind!” 1 ➽ No, But Scenario
DESIGNER: “They are exactly what we discussed for the last 2 months! Here all the documents, proof, sketches…”
CLIENT: “Well, I don’t want them. I’ll reach to out to another studio who will understand me better.”
…And you lost a client with a sentence!
2 ➽ YES, AND… Scenario
DESIGNER: “True, they are different from what you had in mind, because we included suggestions from the other members of your team/investors/target group, and this is the result that was most appealing to them”
CLIENT: “Oh, thank you for your research and for listening to us! I really appreciate it. So, when do you think we could have them for production? We need business cards, website…could you share an estimate for these too?”
WOHOOP WOHOOP, you just got yourself a new gig and a happy client! 🔥WEEKLY EXERCISE
Start small. When a partner, friend or relative suggest something you don’t really want, count to 10, then start your reply with “Yes, sure, let’s do this - and…” and add your part, something you’d like to do or enjoy.
My partner asks me to go running. Instead of shutting him down, I say yes and suggest we go for sushi afterwards. 👇Tell me, did you try it? How did it go? What was the outcome on the relationship with your partner/friend/client?
