Once every blue moon the famous Sossusvlei is filled with water...an absolute phenomenal occurrence to imagine this happening in the heart of the harsh Namib Dessert. Often not a drop of rain fell in the desert, but rather thunderstorms hundreds of kilometers away result in raging rivers filling the dry Sossusvlei. Maybe you are one of the lucky ones to experience this moment ....... . #naturesdesign #sandart #tracks #shadows #photooftheday #instaphoto #travelbuddy #travelbucketlist #travelholic #travelshot #luxury #sunrise #namibia🇳🇦 #instago #sossusvlei #instamoment #photography #follow #exploretheglobe #instavacation #africa #safari #trees #pattern #discover #selfdrive #moments #dunes #contrast #sounds #sossusvlei

Situated in the largest conservation area in Africa (the Namib-Naukluft National Park), Sossusvlei is possibly Namibia’s most spectacular and best-known attraction. Characterised by the large red dunes that surround it, Sossusvlei is a large, white, salt and clay pan and is a great destination all year round. The dunes in this area are some of the highest in the world, reaching almost 400 meters, and provide photographic enthusiasts with wonderful images in the beautiful morning and evening light. The characteristic red dunes of the Namib Desert have developed over many millions of years. The red sand that forms the dunes was deposited into the Atlantic Ocean from the Orange River. The Benguela current then carried this sand northwards, to be deposited back onto the land by the ocean’s surf. From here the wind carried the red sand inland to form the dunes over time. Sossusvlei literally translates to “dead-end marsh”, as it is the place where the dunes come together preventing the Tsauchab River from flowing any further, some 60km east of the Atlantic Ocean. However, due to the dry conditions in the Namib Desert the river seldom flows this far and the pan remains bone-dry most years. During an exceptional rainy season the Tsauchab fills the pan, drawing visitors from all over the world to witness this spectacular site. Photographic enthusiasts are spoilt with a glassy “lake” holding reflections of the surrounding dunes. When the pan fills it can hold water for as long as a year. Despite the harsh desert conditions in the area, one can find a wide variety of plants and animals that have adapted to survive. These include insects, reptiles, birds, mammals and many desert adapted plants, flowers and fruits, like Namibia’s national plant, the welwitschia. #sossusvlei #sossusvleidunes #namibia #namibiatourism #naturetravelnamibia

#Repost from @joyfully_unsettled with @regram.app ... Getting antsy to go roam the world again. In one week I’ll head off for 2 months to go explore New Zealand, Australia, Vietnam and Japan 🙌🏻 DM me any recommendations you have 🙏🏻 : People often ask me what my favorite place is. I can’t actually answer that because each place has such a special place in my heart for different reasons. However, Namibia was definitely the coolest and most unique place I’ve been able to experience so far. If Africa isn’t on your bucket list, you’re missing out. If it is on your bucket list, I encourage you to push it to the top ❤️ : : #namibia #africa #exploreafrica #sossusvlei #namibia🇳🇦 #namibdesert #desert #sanddunes #deadvlei #africandeserts #solotravel #chameleonsafaris #sheisnotlost #shedarestotravel #wearetravelgirls #passionpassport #femmetravel #femaletravel #joyfullunsettled at Namibia

#Repost from @joyfully_unsettled with @regram.app ... 🎵All the Way Up🎵 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Climbed the 2nd (barely 2nd) tallest sand dune in the world just to get this photo #realtalk. The entire time, all of the gasping and wheezing, and every sand-filled step of the 1,066 feet (325 meter) hike, I told myself ‘it’ll be worth it for the photos’ 😂 (we are all motivated differently) This photo itself doesn’t represent the height, the beauty, nor the magnificence of this place but nonetheless it’s my new favorite photo ❤️ • In the end, it was worth it. I’ve learned many things during this trip. The need to expand my vocabulary to fully and more accurately describe places such as this without constantly using “awesome”, “amazing”, “beautiful”, and “stunning” are among them ... • • #bigdaddydune #sossusvlei #namibia #namib #namibdesert #namibiadunes #namibiadesert #africa #deadvlei #namibnaukluft #namibnaukluftpark #dunes #sandunes #tallestsanddunesintheworld #worldwonders #wander #passionpassport #femmetravel #solotravel #tlpicks #natgeotravel #natgeo #wearetravelgirls #sheisnotlost #tbapresets #lightroom #travelbogger at Namibia

For support of This important School in Namibia, please visit my blog www.reffeldt-photography.com/blog/ link in bio #reffeldtphotography #sossusvlei #namibia #schoolinthedesert #educationafrica. Between widestretched dunes and an overheated sun, small communities of Sossusvlei are trying to survive due to tourism. With the help of foreign investors and donations, one School "the little bugs" have been created for smaller children. But although it looks nice on the surface, many struggles have to be overcome. After the age of 8 the children are being send away to bigger cities, only coming back every third month to see their families.

Как вам?😜 at Sossusvlei Park

The giant sand dunes in the Namib Desert are some of the highest in the world.
