Did you know Chile produced some really spectacular wines? They are best known for their red wines – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Carmenère – but are finding great success with some whites in their cooler areas! Now, I can see you looking at me as if I have three heads, 🤨“Chile? Cool regions? What nonsense are you talking about, Heather?!” I promise you, they exist! These regions are moderated by cool ocean breezes and altitude. Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc have been pretty successful, and people are making really tasty wines!
Chilean Chardonnays are some of my favourites. They’re full-bodied with moderate and balancing acidity. Tropical fruits dominate, with pineapple🍍, mango🥭, and kiwi🥝 being the main flavours here. Some oak is used, but it’s not an overwhelming force.
All in all, Chilean Chardonnays offer some incredible value and we should all be enjoying them! at Toronto, Ontario
