Swipe 👉🏻✨ Sometimes I just want to sketch and not think ahead about what the character will look like, or what the story will be. Without any thought that someone will see this work. I truly believe in sitting down and actively making ugly art. Nothing perfectly proportional, pretty or glossy. Just drawing out shapes and lines and working the pencil until it begins to look like something. Usually i’ll end up with really strange and unusual characters. And I think to myself, “where did that come from?” I used to get so caught up in trying to make a perfect drawing from the moment I put the pencil to paper - and that’s why my drawings were always looking so stiff and lifeless. My fingers were too tight. The process wasn’t fun. I still have to stop myself from overworking a piece.
I’m not showing these drawings because I think they’re amazing or even good, but because I genuinely had so much joy drawing them. I was loose and relaxed. I don’t even care if they have wonky faces.
I’m probably just talking to myself at this point... Anyways! I’ll be posting my ugly, funny, strange or whatever-I-felt-like-creating-that-day sketches every Sunday. Sometimes traditional, sometimes digital. If you post sketches as well then please let me know! I’d love to see it✨
