I have tried so many different diets and eating plans in the last 12 months it’s been FRUSTRATING that each one has only had minimal results. It’s also taken a toll on my energy and confidence. I struggled to do my normal daily workload. I slept hours and struggled daily with who I was becoming. Alright time to open up about what’s been going on inside my head lately 👇🏼 - - The past week I’ve been in a very negative headspace. I’ve felt very fatigued which has made it hard to have motivation to do much. This in turn has made me feel lazy and pushed me to self isolation as a coping mechanism. I’m naturally a very social person so doing this is not good for my mental health. - - Today I was working on my brain retraining program and the main goal of the program is to break the negative thought process loops that happen when thinking about illness or the things associated with it. Even when trying to think positively all I could do was remind myself of how much I’m struggling with in my life. I’ve been struggling with food a lot lately, which in turn affects how I feel, which then makes me sad and want to be lazy, which makes me feel more sad. I’m sure you can imagine the cycle that ends up happening. - - Just about 20 minutes ago I was scrolling on my feed and saw a post that said “heal your gut and the rest will heal itself” or something along those lines. I thought about it for a bit and realized that when I’m eating what I know makes me feel good I FEEL GOOD. It’s pretty simple. It’s easy to get off track when eating things like sugar or grains doesn’t ALWAYS make me feel bad. Sometimes I can eat it and feel great or sometimes I can eat it and feel like I am actually dying. But now I’m realizing that even if I don’t immediately feel bad in the moment, that its still doing damage and I end up feeling bad eventually. - - Once again, my feelings are always up and down but I am determined to get my eating back on track. This is what is good for my health in the long run and I’m excited to see the positive impacts it has in the future.

I haven’t posted much over the last couple of days because frankly there’s nothing new going on, just more of the same, So today I want to talk about drinking, I drink a lot of soda water, it just feels more exciting than flat 😂, when I first found out how toxic my systems was we got a water cooler and it’s the best, I prefer fruit tea over green, and my coffee is as black as my soul (jk) . Giving up alcohol was the worst!!!! So yeah, I didn’t want to post this. But this is the truth about IBS, SIBO, & gut health. Or whatever the f is going on with me. I know many of you struggle with these sort of things and I appreciate every single one of you for reaching out. I usually start my mornings looking like I do on the left, but by bedtime... 👎👎 Not only do I look 6 months pregnant, I feel horrible. Pains, knots in my stomach, gas, you know it. Sorry if that’s tmi, I’m just trying to be as real as I can with you all. And not only does this affect me physically, but it has taken quite its toll on my mental as well. Having to watch everything you’re eating (even look it up), and still hurting after is so hard. It makes me want to give up everyday, but then I know it’d be 10 times worse. Just trying to find some peace of mind and get some more answers and hopefully more remedies here shortly. Prayers and hopeful thoughts are SO appreciated. Do you struggle with these sorts of things?? If so, comment below something that has helped you. Even if it’s small. Anything helps. 🙏

On April 12, 2016 Adam and I were on our first ever real vacation together in Iceland. A few months earlier we talked about getting engaged and I was very (very) hopeful it would happen on this trip. When 3 days into the trip I was still traveling with my bf not my fiancé.... I was pretty discouraged and kind of thinking, maybe he wasn’t serious when we talked about it? What if he changed his mind?? My brain 🧠 was basically going cray trying to read his mind and figure out what was going on. • Well on day 4 of our trip we took a little hike up to a waterfall in a cove on the property of our Airbnb. Adam hadn’t changed his mind and he was totally serious when he brought up getting engaged months earlier. He proposed on our hike, near this little waterfall and even recorded the whole thing without me knowing it! • This pic was taken moments after we got engaged and were walking down the hill back to our Airbnb! Another person staying in the house actually walked into the cove just after we got engaged and offered to take some impromptu engagement photos with her fancy camera 📸👍🏼 • Nearly 3 years later, our life together hasn’t been all rainbows 🌈 and sunshine. There’s been a lot of darkness and hard times between my illness and his 3 year residency, it’s tough, most of the time. • A part of me fears that Adam will just give up on me, that he doesn’t want a “sick wife.” (Something I’ve touched on in other posts) Still, another part of me knows that we will persevere through this storm and many others. • I recently heard someone talk about your life partner as “the person you want by your side when things get bad” Of course, you want them there in happy times too but who do you really want to support you during life’s tough moments? That is the person you should spend your life with. • Before getting married I imagined marriage would be like dating but just more secure and settled. In many ways it is, but my illness started only a few days before our wedding, so I never imagined we’d have this third wheel aka Lyme disease along for the ride with us. I’m a 21 year old international adoptee (originally from China) currently living in Scotland, I also happen to be invisibly ill. • Growing up I had a happy, healthy and energetic childhood, all that changed in a heartbeat December 2010 after some severe stomach pain meant I ended up in hospital and subsequently, due to a plethora of symptoms, became completely bed bound. Since then, it’s been a long and complicated medical journey resulting in several diagnoses. Currently I’m diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, Gastroparesis, Reactive Hypoglycaemia, Hypothyroidism, Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. I’m also highly suspected to have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and possibly have Chronic Lyme. • Despite these illnesses and possibly because of them, I want to live life as vibrantly as possible and help as many people as I can. For most people with invisible illness, invisible illness is their first and only part of their life/experience of being perceived differently from their identity. Personally, it has always been a part of my life (due to being internationally adopted). As a result I am passionate about not judging a book by its cover whether it be illness or identity related. This means, for me, the change I want to see most in the world is for as many people as possible to not just tolerate difference but genuinely celebrate it!!! • Each of us has our own story, our own cause, our own life pain and no two people will have exactly the same ones. Sunday morning pancakes has been a tradition in my life for years so when i started the low fermentable carb and low histamine diets I was devastated to find that I had to cut out buckwheat flour (which is what i usually make my pancakes out of😔) So this morning I tried a low fermentable carb and low histamine pancake recipe topped with butter and blueberries. I didn't quite get the consistency right but it actually tasted pretty good😍I used stevia instead of maple syrup (less sugary) and almond milk instead of coconut milk (coconut milk + coconut flour is too many #FODMAPS). Colopathe, c'est l'étiquette qu'on colle sur toutes les personnes qui présentent régulièrement des problèmes en lien avec le transit. Diarrhée, constipation, spasmes intestinaux, diverticules... Quand mon médecin m'a sortit un jour "vous de toute façon vous êtes colopathe" je vous le dis franchement, j'ai fait le rapprochement avec sociopathe. Pas sociopathe dans le sens clinique du terme à savoir quelqu'un que les normes sociales indiffèrent et qui est dénué d'émotions, mais plutôt comme socio-pathe dans le sens socialement malade. Parce que oui, clairement, quand tu as une pathologie chronique qu'elle quelle soit socialement l'impact est puissant pour ne pas dire puissamment déstructurant et destructeur. Research suggests that as many as 50% of pregnant women experience constipation at some point during their pregnancy. Lack of dietary fibre, reduced water intake and changes to our hormones are all important factors that can contribute to constipation during pregnancy. . In pregnancy, circulating levels of hormones fluctuate, resulting in an increased the risk of constipation. These hormones include: 💩 Oestrogen: An increase in this hormone results in delayed gastric emptying = increased colonic transit time. 💩 Progesterone: An increase in progesterone causes our smooth muscles to relax throughout our body, including our digestive tract. This means that food passes through our intestines at a slower rate, increasing the risk of constipation but allowing maximum absorption of nutrients for the fetus. 💩 Motilin: A hormone in pregnancy that decreases in concentration. This hormone is responsible for propelling faeces through the colon. 💩 Aldosterone: Between 12- 20 weeks of gestation, this hormone increases our colonic water absorption. . Transitioning off of the elemental diet- Back to eating! ✨ My digestive system has been on vacation for 3 weeks so I am easing it into the “real world” again. On day one I broke fast with a super plain homemade chicken broth (only added salt) in the morning. It was SO nice to drink something savory and warm! I had 2 elemental diet shakes throughout the day for calories and for an easier transition. At night, I had homemade beef  with a bit of salt and a dash of ground black pepper. I made the beef broth out of oxtail, which made it rich and comforting. ✨ Today is my second day post-elemental diet.  I had an elemental diet shake in the morning and blended cooked carrots with the homemade chicken broth for a delightful and easy to digest carrot soup for lunch.  This is the first thing close to a real meal I got to have after 21 days of elemental diet! AIP Instant Pot Chicken and Dumpling Soup 🥣 . This recipe is adapted from AIP sisterhood, but it’s one of my favorites and I figured out how to make it in the @instantpotofficial 😊 . Soup: 4 carrots, diced 3 stalks of celery, chopped 1 cup peas (omit or sub for AIP if haven’t reintro’d) 4 baby bok choy, chopped 1 lbs. chicken breast 1 cup full fat coconut milk 1 cup water 1 tbs. arrowroot starch 1 tbs. thyme salt to taste Dumplings: 1/2 cup cassava flour 1/2 cup arrowroot starch (can use 1 cup if don’t have cassava. I’ve also done all cassava flour and that works well too) 1/2 cup coconut flour 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. Cream of tartar 1/4 tsp. salt 3 tbs. coconut oil 1/2 cup warm water . Place all soup ingredients in the instant pot and pressure cook for 15 minutes. Once done, quick release . While instant pot is releasing, mix dry ingredients for dumplings. Cut in the coconut oil then add the warm water and mix until dough comes together (you may need a little more water). Divide into about 6 pieces and roll into balls . Take chicken out of the instant pot and shred it. Mix it back into the soup ingredients then add the dumplings, pressing them gently just below the surface of the soup . Pressure cook for another 10 minutes then quick release. There probably won’t ever be a day that goes by without a morning and afternoon cup of coffee. With my gut issues and anxiety, I have to be careful not to over do it. I have learned to enjoy a very weak cup, about 4-6 oz diluted with hot water, or a single shot Americano. Some would tell you to cut out coffee completely but here’s the thing- this right here...the coffee, the sweet, the afternoon, it’s self care for me. Sure, I’ve made adjustments- weaker coffee, no refined sugars, no wheat- but is still my afternoon treat. Some days, it’s not about getting over the fatigue or slump of the day, it’s about taking a moment to savor, to check in, to indulge. ... ... I could switch to tea, but there is no part of me that wants to. Tea for me, since I was a child, is a pain reliever. When I had tummy aches, and to this day, I reach for tea as a medication. I love tea, I’m grateful for tea, but it by no means allow me to just sink in and indulge. Coffee does this. FOR ME. ... ... So just to remind you, it doesn’t matter what diet you are on, take it with a grain of salt if you are not doing it for a dire medical reason. Trust your body, focus on your body, focus on external factors in your life that manifest in the body, and focus on balance. Don’t deprive if you don’t have to. Eat and drink intuitively. This is one of those things my mom has always told me since I was young and I wish I listened to her more. I usually always wait till I’m in the pits of despair and at rock bottom before I reach out and ask for help, but I am learning & constantly remind myself that it is always okay to ask for help no matter how small or large you think the issue is. ⁣ ⁣ Many of my hospitalizations & mental health crisis’ could have been handled much better if I had just reached out and asked for help at the first red flags. Simple meal WIN! (Low FODMAPs) . +organic Radicchio & Bok Choy sauteed in grass-fed Ghee +Pasture-raised, uncured Bacon (no nitrates or sugar) +Steamed Basmati rice (thoroughly rinsed b4 cooking) I’ve been on a very restrictive therapeutic dietary protocol to treat SIBO the last 4 months. sharing my favourite pancake recipe with you this morning 😻⬇️ i definitely don’t eat the same thing every day for breakfast buuuut pancakes are always my go to when i don’t know what to have. this is almost always the base recipe i use and it never disappoints! and there’s unlimited opportunities for mix-ins too 🙌🏻 . GF BANANA PANCAKES 1/2 banana, mashed 2 whole eggs 1/3 cup oats or quinoa flakes, ground into flour 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 tbsp ground flax 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp vanilla . mix ingredients together, heat oil (ghee is my faaaav) in large pan over medium heat, drop batter by 1/4 cup onto pan, cook until bubbles form, flip and cook for 1-2 more minutes. i get 4 thicccc pancakes 👌🏻 . mixed in 1 tbsp @manitobaharvest hemp hearts, raisins, 85% dark chocolate and topped with almond butter and maple syrup ❤️✌🏻 #pancakesaturday at Powell River, British Columbia

ALMOST $700 SPENT, OUT-OF-POCKET. 💊👨🏻‍⚕️⁣ ⁣ No tests run yet, simply TALKING to a GI doctor about what I’ve been going through.⁣ ⁣ I was put on a round of antibiotics (ugh 😒) for 2 WEEKS, 3 PILLS A DAY - meant to treat a POTENTIAL bacterial overgrowth in my gut. Pretty much tossing spaghetti to see if it sticks. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Which is what I’d been doing anyway. 😂⁣ ⁣ Don’t get me wrong - I’m EXTREMELY glad to have found a doctor that I actually feel like I can talk to about a more natural path for WHATEVER it is that we find ✨🌱 but I’m not trying to pay $300+ a visit to talk to this dude.⁣ ⁣ And after this round of *42* freaking pills 💊 I DO feel like I have more energy and less discomfort. So, the research and trial & error will continue on...⁣ ⁣ ➡️ BUT. ⬅️⁣ ⁣ If it’s something as simple as a bacterial overgrowth? 👀 There is ZERO reason that I cant handle that WITHOUT antibiotics & medication.⁣ ⁣ If I hear one more person tell me how being healthy & eating cleaner is TOO EXPENSIVE 💸 though???⁣ ⁣ I CALL BULLSHIT. 👏🏼 the $700 we just spent on 1 doc visit + 1 round of meds tells a different story, y’all. 🙃⁣ ⁣ You have a choice.⁣ ⁣ Find out as much as you can about your body and LISTEN TO IT. I have battled with IBS, anxiety and depression for years. It’s something that has taken control of my life. Explaining what I deal with day-to-day became unbearable because I have been suffering for so long and I began to think people didn’t believe me or thought I was being weak, and that my friends was FAR from the truth! I have basically tied the hands of every doctor I saw and came to an all time low last fall when I realized all options had been exhausted with my last doctor (whom I greatly appreciated and think is an amazing doctor). I had been tested from head to toe, scan after scan, more needles than I’d ever hope to see and we only seemed to get a couple pieces of the puzzle. . . . I told my husband and family that I just needed a break. A break from doctor’s offices, from trips to the hospital for tests, from handfuls of supplements all day, from starving myself all day when I had somewhere to go, from always playing life out to be great when it wasn’t. I was exhausted. . . . I took that break and of course nothing got better. On my days off work I found myself drowning in files of paperwork I had saved from every single office visit, test result, prescription, supplement, you name it! I was desperately searching for the missing piece in all that I had been through. One day I was recommended to research Medical Medium and I totally hesitated. “Oh great, another protocol I’ll try and get nowhere” is what went through my head. I thought this whole thing sounded crazy. . . . Turns out this crazy thing has been the best thing! My amazing family got me the books for Christmas and dove in! I couldn’t put them down!
