This is kind of a weird rant and I'll probably delete this soon, but I'm just so annoyed with the aspect of college. I'm going to try not to make it as much of a personal vent as possible because that's not what my account is for, but I really hate the last couple years of high school.
Right when you turn 16, you're expected to get your license, get a car, get a job, have a good social life, and plan your entire future career. There's so much pressure.
I've wanted to be an author my entire life, but that probably won't ever happen, so I decided that I need an actual job. I wanted to go to art school for the longest time and then I realized how much of a waste of money that is. You rarely come across jobs hiring artists.
So I thought maybe I could be a therapist, but then I realized that I don't think I could ever sit there for 45-60 minute intervals listening to people's problems.
So I thought maybe I could be a graphic designer. And then a counselor told me that you can really find any graphic designing jobs in the state that I live in and also, graphic designing college classes are pretty much bs and you can learn pretty much all of what they teach you from the internet.
College is a great and necessary thing for a lot of careers like becoming a doctor, or a lawyer, or anything important like that. But, don't think that you NEED to go to college. Almost everyone I know who went and got a degree aren't even currently working in the field that they earned their degree in. Can you imagine how much money they wasted by getting a degree that they're not even using?
I'm not trying to judge anyone for changing their minds on what they wanted to do, but if there wasn't so much pressure in going to college because college=success in these people's minds, then people wouldn't feel obligated to go right out of high school and end up wasting their money on a degree that they don't even need, or that they picked on a whim.
So if you're going to take anything away from this long, pointless rant, DO NOT GO TO COLLEGE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO. If you want a job that doesn't require a degree, go for it. Your life is your own, do whatever you want with it.
