Day 6 of #AshtangaHippies is #vatayanasana or #HorseFacePose 🐴 . . I do love the point where we come to this in the 2nd Series. WHO freaking WOULDN'T? Lol.🤷🏻‍♀️😜 . And #nakrasana or #crocodilepose. This is probably one of my weakest asanas from the #secondseries. My 🐊 definitely needs some work. This video is actually from before Christmas and I feel like even in just this short time my crocodile has evolved slightly. The practice remains the same but we are constantly changing. . In the beginning when I started practicing nakrasana I couldn’t go backwards for the life of me. Then one day my teacher told me it was because I didn’t want to accept my past nor my roots 🤔, and thinking about that for a few days surprisingly got me moving in both directions. when the mind is still asana is correct... всю неделю мой майнд играет со мной в пинг-понг. беру право на присутствие и наблюдаю. понимаю, что нельзя ассоциировать себя с болезнями, «не считающимися хорошими» привычками, волнениями, болью и прочим. но и отрицать себя в них, для меня, кажется немножечко нелепостью. ведь на какой-то момент это тоже становится частью моей самости и пусть так. нелегко перестать ненавидеть себя за многое, но кажется таким логичным перестать ассоциировать себя с теми проявлениями. ни тот и ни другой варианты не срабатывают для меня. мне всегда хочется остановиться посередине. потому что идеальной реальности нет. если вообще есть хоть доля реального в том, что мы наблюдаем. и вместо того, чтобы повторять мантры : «как же так случилось ? и сколько можно быть ...? ты ведь не такой вообще...» я сочиняю другие: «пусть так было, и пусть не всегда было хорошо, но я здесь для того, чтобы сейчас сделать лучше.» ни хорошо, ни правильно..а просто немного лучше. #ashtangaalien #yogaisme #yogaishere #ashtangayoga #primaryseries #secondseries #dhanurasana #urdhvadhanurasana #inkedyogi #tattooednation at Minsk, Belarus

#kapotasana รู้สึกเข้าท่า อยู่ในท่า สบายมากขึ้นเรื่อยๆ จำได้ว่าได้ท่ามาแรกๆ คือจะร้องไห้ เกลียดมาก ไม่ชอบเลย 55 เมื่อก่อนก็ทำได้ แต่ทรมาน เจ็บหลังล่างตลอดๆ มีแค่เจ็บมากกับเจ็บน้อย แต่เดี๋ยวนี้เหมือนเราใช้ร่างกายได้ดีมากขึ้น ไม่เจ็บ เพิ่งเข้าใจที่ครูเคยสอนว่าทำแบบนี้ๆ จะไม่เจ็บหลัง บางอย่างก็ต้องใช้เวลาในการเรียนรู้และฝึกฝน กดขาแต่ก้นต้องไม่เกร็ง(อันนี้ยาก กว่าจะแยกประสาทได้) อกยก ซี่โครงก็ต้องเก็บ แขม่วท้องพลักสะโพก พยายามยกสะโพกยกอกไว้....เฮ้อออ กว่าจะได้ เ ห นื่ อ ย 😅 แล้วเมื่อก่อนก็ชอบอยากจะเข้าท่าทำให้ได้ลึกๆ เพื่ออะไรก็ไม่รู้เนอะ ความอยากมันเยอะนั่นเอง อยากดีอยากทำได้เหมือนคนอื่นเค้า กิเลสทั้งนั้น เจ็บตัวเพราะมันก็เคยมาแล้ว แล้วก็มาตระหนักได้ว่าทำไปเพื่ออะไร ทุกวันนี้ยังฝึกได้ เข้าท่าได้ก็ดีหนักหนาแล้ว อายุก็ไม่ใช่น้อย ต้องฝึกแบบเมตตาตัวเองด้วย การฝึกมันสอนอะไรเราได้มากจริงๆ #ashtanga #secondseries

TBT - This is a picture of me, Acy and Kaylan Davis, and Yoda 15 years ago! . . I have always loved helping and caring for others. Through the many years of my teaching career, I rely on care taking positions to supplement my income. . . This was the best! When I first opened my Yoga 🧘‍♀️ studio in Nags Head, I lived with the Davis family and got to have a large role in the care of these two beautiful girls who brought me so much Joy as you can see in the picture. . . They are both in high school now which is totally daunting! And, Yoda is no longer with us. 😢 . . Life just keeps evolving and unfolding in the most beautiful ways. . . Parvati was thinking it was taking too long. She had a chat with Kama and convinced him to go shoot his arrows of ❤️love❤️ at Shiva to get his ass home. Kama snuck up on Shiva and launched a red lotus arrow. Happy Valentines day Here is a real heart opener for you 😍 Setu Bandhasana. (Bridge lock pose). This posture is a bridge that is supported by full body engagement. As within all elements of a yoga practice, our energy and efforts are drawn towards cultivating love and compassion. The posture comes at the end of the primary series. You could say the whole practice has led to this moment when you open yourself up to the world. In order to reach this asana, we should have cultivated awareness and control of our pelvis, core and kneck (Mula, Uddiyana and Jalandhara Bandha). When all of our bandhas are engaged then an energy stack is created in the body and the posture will lift with minimal effort. The main fear for many students is surrounding the neck and head. But if you have strong core, then the pressure is spread evenly through the body. Yoga demands that you go to the places that scare you. Meet your fear with compassion and understanding. Open your heart and mind to the possibility that love will triumph and anything is achievable. With practice, conviction and one pointed focus, all is coming. I wish you a day full of love. IMPORTANT Slight discomfort in yoga is not something to avoid, however, the joints of the body should never be in pain. Always seek guidance if you are unsure. Practice with an experienced teacher. It wouldnt be a happy Helen week without some LBH action AAAAAAND it's on Valentines Day 😉❤ . . Clearly my "true love pose" 😅❤ . Day 4 of #AshtangaHippies is #ekapadasirsasana . This one is part of the Intermediate, or 2nd Series and has been such an ever changing and revealing series of postures for me 🙏💜 . 💜I know that a lot of people have spoken of getting sore necks and shoulders, and even terrible headaches, when attempting this, but this was not the case for me. 💜Instead, I would come out of this series of poses and have such an aching lower back that my upward facing dog was almost cringing. . 💜This confused me a lot until I read somewhere that I needed to engage my core in a big way. Belly AND spine. 👉🏽So I tried to imagine that I was "fighting" my way back up (that my leg behind my head was pushing me down and I have to fight it with all I had) . 👉🏽And after visualising this and working on this aspect, the ache disappeared. . To be able to look UP here requires a fair amount of spine strength. . 🤷🏻‍♀️Now I am trying to visualise and manifest a spotter to follow me around and adjust my practice because I want to see how much further my leg will go down my back 😏👊🏼😅 . . I used to think that once I got a certain pose, my life would somehow be easier. If you are unfamiliar with Ashtanga, poses are added one at a time as you are ready from a set series. Life remains unaffected as my practice grows, but I am stronger and more flexible. I am more self aware and focused. All of these poses are just lessons. They teach skills to add to my repertoire as a human that can overcome and create. A two hour workshop on the fundamentals of yoga back-bends taking place on 16th of March 2019. In this workshop, we will be exploring the fundamentals of back-bends. We will use a variety of postures, including standing, seated and supine, highlighting healthy bio-mechanics of the spine. tiny thunderbolt “synchronized swim” ⚡️ (ie laghu vajrasana with my mom) ⚡️ ⚡️ ⚡️ so people who have seen my mom and i practice know that i have a way easier time with backbends. i have no trouble at all with dropbacks, coming up, kapotasana ... the one thing i do have trouble with is laghu vajrasana, and coincidentally this is quite easy for my mom to do. we decided to try it on video and see what she’s doing that i’m not (observational learning?) and what we’ve noticed is that she is able to grab her ankles, while i have to reach my arms quite far forward along the calves in order to touch my head to the floor and still come up (and I still have to bend my arms while she keeps hers extended). does anyone have tips or advice on what could help me grab at the ankles but still reach the floor and come up without pushing off with my arms? i’d really appreciate feedback on this ⚡️ ⚡️ (feb 11th, 2019, ie snow day ❄️ because this city’s roads and public transit can’t handle road ice)

Handstand alignment. Anyone who has studied with me will know I love all sorts of handstand variations. But the straight line gymnastic version has never been part of my practice. When I am trying a new handstand and trying to realign, I don't believe in using the wall. Instead try getting someone to help you in the middle of the room. When it’s snowing and everyone is going to be late to the office ❤️...but really though. I’ve been practicing Ashtanga for a year today! 6 days a week I’ve surrendered myself to the breath, showed up for myself on my mat, and practiced this challenging, liberating, meditative practice🧘‍♀️ I’ve practiced on the beach, in parks, in tiny hotel rooms—really anywhere and everywhere.
