3 years ago I ran my first half marathon in Los Angeles, at night. It was one of the coolest experiences thus far, to run through the streets of LA, with no traffic & into Dodger Stadium! In my training leading up to it, I knew that I would be sore afterwards, but I didn't expect the weeks of pain I experienced after. WEEKS. I knew something was wrong, but I attributed it to a torn muscle. Then one morning I woke up, & immediately fell to the ground. My legs had given out underneath me & I couldn't move them... I knew then that something really wrong.
After going through 3 different doctors & finally ending up at a specialist, she came in & said, "I know what you have based off your blood work, you have Rheumatoid Arthritis." WTF is that?! RA is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the joints, which overtime, can cause deformities & immobility, especially in the fingers, wrists, feet, & ankles. It's a chronic illness that is invisible to the eye, so I get a lot of "well you don't look sick" 🙄🙄. While yes, I have a chronic illness, I don't let it define me. I am still crafting away.. & while sometimes my whole body will feel fatigued, this is my passion. My love. RA has taught me patience & mindfulness. I am thankful for that. I would rather it be me than anyone of my loved ones, bc I am strong enough to take it.
