"My favorite 'outreach' experience is an ongoing one with my niece. She has two important traits that every young scientist should have: she's curious and she's relentless... Just a few months ago, she asked, 'Why do stars twinkle?'. This hit home for me because that question, along with many others, is the reason I developed a love for learning and understanding how science plays a role in our everyday lives." ⠀ ⠀ Meet @ulaval #gradstudent and #optomechanical designer, Deven Patel! Mentorship is a crucial process you can find across many professions at every stage. In my experience, mentorship is absolutely necessary to thrive. My last two years at UCR I was presented with an opportunity to develop my own skillset while benefitting my peers alongside this team of exceptional young leaders. By advising my mentees on their decisions and presenting my own experiences, I helped them weigh the pros and cons so they could make informed decisions in their best interests. I stepped down from this position with invaluable leadership and interpersonal encounters—experiences that parallel the way I will interact with patients and professionals someday. Currently, the program is looking for their next cohort of peer student leaders. If you are an interested CNAS student, DM me or email CNASscholars@ucr.edu at UC Riverside

The reach of the Solar System extends well beyond the full-size planets, and that's becoming clearer than ever with a new discovery. Astronomers have detected 2018 VG18 "Farout," which is the most distant Solar System object known to date at 120AU from the Sun (about 11.15 billion miles) -- the previous record-setter, the dwarf planet Eris, is 'just' 96AU away. That makes it over three and a half times farther from the Sun than Pluto (34AU), and over 100 times farther than Earth. But what is it, exactly? That's hard to say at this early stage (the image you see above is an artist's concept), but there are a few clues. At just under 311 miles in diameter, Farout is likely to be a dwarf planet. Its pinkish tint, meanwhile, suggests that it's rich in ice. And based on where it is in the sky, astronomers suspect it has an extremely long orbit (likely over 1,000 years) similar to those of other extremely distant Solar System objects. That could support theories of a giant "Planet X" influencing these smaller celestial bodies. It could take a long time before you learn much more. It will take a few years to fully understand Farout's orbit due to its distance and slow movement, and a closer observation isn't really in the cards when there are no probes headed its way any time soon. Moreover, it probably won't hold that crown forever. The dwarf planet Sedna is currently 90AU away from the Sun, but its orbit will take it more than 900AU away before it comes back. Think of this more as an illustration of the Solar System's scope -- there's plenty of activity beyond the known planets, even if a lot of it remains elusive. #scienceisus #science #scientists #scientific #space #universe #universelaws #dwarfplanet #planet #exoplanet #astronomy #astrophysics #physics

इश्क़ पर ज़ोर नहीं है ये वो आतिश 'ग़ालिब' कि लगाए न लगे और बुझाए न बने #ghalib . ❤️❤️❤️ What is love ?? Is #love an emotion or some chemical reaction in brain or something else entirely ? An age old question which both #romantics and #scientists have tried to decipher in their own way. Scientists believe it’s a chemical reaction caused in the brain with the release of oxytocin hormone in females and vasopressin hormones in males. But why does the body release these so called love hormones for someone specific is still a mystery. And for romantic love is ; to put in Shakespeare’s word : “Love, whose month is ever May, Spied a blossom passing fair, Playing in the wanton air: Through the velvet leaves the wind, All unseen can passage find; That the lover, sick to death, Wish'd himself the heaven's breath” #shakespeare . ❤️❤️❤️ But my question is why do we need to define or even understand love ?? Love is beautiful feeling and it should only be felt in our souls : “सिर्फ़ एहसास है ये रूह से महसूस करो प्यार को प्यार ही रहने दो कोई नाम न दो” ❤️❤️❤️ Pondering on this thought in a red: colour of love; #linen saree . Album cover design for the latest release "Scientists That Believe In God" by Miami based musician and vocalist K Sos. As always, it is a pleasure to work with the brilliantly tuned-out-the-box mind of The Hoy Polloy front man for another one of his exotic solo trip records. A mellow musical miasma that gives the listener cool breezes of brightly euphonic chords spindling with soft timbres and floating choral lines. The album as a whole let's one drift on waves of flavorful melodies while soaring on the ripened comforts of hypnotic semi-urban elliptical beats. Holding true to our residing feel-good collaborations the album cover imagery itself is a departure just as the musical stylistics are from Sos's last album. Leveling up and creating a cosmic thinker approach to the lyrics and tone of the music is reflected in the visual companion for the cover. A spin on DaVinci's Vetruvian Man sketch we journey into Sos's mind with the scientist smocked in garb amongst the laboratory of nebulae and stardust surrounded by the hand written notes of the lyricist. The naked exploratory soul is also coalesced into the framework of the character with subtle hand gestures that are hints to the refraction of faith and dispersement of conjugal aura that is the seeker of truths both in science and art. 🧪🧬🔬🔭✨ • Be sure to scope out the new album "Scientists That Believe In God" available now on all streaming services. #Scientists have developed a way to bring artificial leaves out of the lab and into a natural environment, where they can help clean the #air. According to Futurism, existing artificial leaves can mimic #photosynthesis, but draw pure carbon dioxide from pressurized tanks in the lab. As such, they fail to be effective in the real world, where they need to be able to draw from more dilute sources. #UIC Today reports that researchers from the # UniversityofIllinois at #Chicago solved this problem by encasing the leaf in a semi-permeable membrane filled with water. When warmed by #sunlight, water evaporates out, and #carbondioxide is pulled in. An artificial photosystem then converts #CO2 to carbon monoxide and oxygen. Carbon monoxide can be used to create various synthetic fuels, including gasoline and methanol. The oxygen can either be collected or released into the environment. The researchers calculate that 360 of the 1.7 meter long and 0.2 meter wide leaves could produce a half ton of carbon monoxide per day. The same number of leaves spread out in a 500 square meter area could also reduce CO2levels within 100 meters by 10% in just one day. #الإمارات #الشارقة #الشارقة24 #Sharjah24 #Sharjah #UAE #Sharjah24graphics
