I honestly have the greatest little pony.
Went to the barn today with the intention of hopping on Mardi BB, I lunged him in the snow quick to see how he was, got the mounting block out, and helmet on, tied the lead rope to his halter to make reins, got on the block, patter his back and he nuzzled my leg as he always does before I hop on in a "you getting on?" Kinda way, and I couldnt do it.
I probably spent a solid 20mins trying to will myself to get on and I couldnt ?
I swung my leg over like 3 or 4 times just about to but the last minute bail... Mardi was such a champ, he just about fell asleep while I'm on the mounting block doubting my every move.
I know hes okay.
I know what I'm doing.
I know it was safe.
But I still doubted myself.
Last time I rode Mardi BB was almost two years ago, and was also the last time I rode him with confidence.
To no fault of his though!! It was just a bad time for me and I took a break from horses , (due to personal reasons, nothing to do with horses) and I have ridden since , once, and i did walk trot and canter , so i know i can still ride, but I still couldn't get on Mardi.
I'm going to try and ride him sometime this week with just a saddle on first, to see how he is, then work on BB.
He truly was a champ and got lots of kisses and treats for being so patient.. I'm so blessed that hes in my life 💙
So for now, I'll try not to beat myself up too much for not getting on, but I'm determined to next time. 💪🏼😇
