Day 49/100 🇷🇴 Tulnicul (known in Bucovina as "bucium") is an ancient musical instrument that is part of the cultural heritage of the Romanian people and was made by simple people, people of the forests, people who found the solution to make the wood to sing. This is an open-ended, two-way aerophone instrument, 1.3 to 3 meters long, and produces musical sounds with the air flowing through it. It is made of fir, maple, lime or hazelwood, and is found especially in the Apuseni Mountains, in the North Carpathian Mountains and in other parts of the Carpathians. In the past, wives and girls were singing at this instrument, announcing family or community events, but also used by shepherds in the mountains for signalling and communication, as well as guiding sheep and dogs. Born in 1947, Maria Ana Gligor is one of the most well-known "tulnicărese " (women who sing at tulnic) in the country. From the age of seven, she learned to play firsthand from her mother, then from the famous Maria Toader and Saveta Petichii. "To sing in tulnic," she confesses, "you have to have a love for the tulnic and the songs of tulnic, that have a special spell, to have the heart and soul of moaţă (women from Țara Moților- Apuseni Mountains). The bucium, also called trâmbiţă or tulnic is a type of alphorn used by mountain dwellers and by shepherds in Romania and Moldova. The word is derived from Latin bucinum, originally meaning "curved horn", an instrument used by the Romans. . . The word is a cognate with English "bugle". The bucium is different from place to place: in the Apuseni mountains it’s made of spruce wood, in Moldova it gets wrapped in cherry bark and in Maramures nowadays it’s made of galvanised sheet metal. . . It is mostly used by shepherds for signaling and communication in the forested mountains, as well as for guiding sheep and dogs . . #romania #romaniaautentica #viatalatara #romaniapitoreasca #romaniafrumoasa #satromanesc #transilvania #transylvania #casalatara #village #mountains #abandoned #traveldestination #ig_countryside #ig_romania #sheep #shepherd #ruralromania #cioban #stână #mitromanesco #rurallife #bucium #romaniamagica at Romania

The fortified church from Cisnadioara — Michaelsberg in German — is one of the oldest monuments around Sibiu, one of the seven citadels founded by the Saxons of Transylvania centuries ago. It’s a rare example of Romanesque architecture in the region, especially its splendid western portal, that survived more than 800 years without major changes. Even if only for this reason, visiting the fortified church from Cisnadioara should be high on your list of attractions to see around Sibiu.(uncover-România.com) . . . #cisnadioara #visitcisnadioara #fortifiedchurch #citadel #fortifiedchurchesoftransylvania #visittransylvania #discoverromania #romaniamagica #romaniawow #romania #visitsibiu #travelgram #rurallife #ruralromania #yolo #collectmomentsnotthings #clearsky #nature #naturephotography #springflowers #ig_romania #ig_countryside #ig_sibiu at Cetatea Cisnadioarei
