// The Buildup // ••••• Three weeks and here's what I've learned: 1. Cold baths work well for me. Notice I didn't say "ice" (the tap is cold enough 😂). I've noticed a difference taking 2-3 of these a week for 10 mins. I'm not doing any crazy distances or workouts yet, but it helps to know this works. I feel refreshed and so do my legs, so this is definitely something I need to continue. // 2. Stretching after night runs is still hard. When getting sleep is more important, I like to shower, eat, and *maybe* foam roll before going to bed. Need to integrate even a quick stretch into the routine. // 3. I got super hungry and tired this week so I definitely need to start eating more. Ever have those days where you want to have a great run, but it ends up being horrible the whole way, no matter what? That was my run today. I got really bad foot pain midway through. I ended up breaking down mid run due to pure frustration. I don’t know if the pain is due to pregnancy, my shoes, or overuse. Run like there‘s a hot guy in front of you and a creepy one behind you 😂 ____________________________________ Ist das nicht ein tolles Motto für den @ingnightmarathonluxembourg? Fürs Selbstvertrauen hab ich gestern einen letzten #longrun vor dem HM eingelegt. Und, wie wars? Mit Hindernissen wars! Mit genügend Gründen, kürzer zu laufen wars! Aber ich habe wirklich, auch an nicht so guten Tagen, mit meinem lieben Motivationstandem sowie meinem PT zwei Menschen an meiner Seite, die mich auch nach einem Turnierwochende mit wenig Schlaf noch dazu bringen können, abends 14k zu laufen. Ich danke Euch 😘 ______________________________________ Das war auch ne wichtige Nummer für meinen Kopf. Der glaubt jetzt auch dran, dass 21k nächsten Samstag drin sind. Zeit ist mir bekanntermaßen egal, und wenn man ein Kotelett im Gesicht hat, dann ist es eh Wurst, oder @the_running_motivation? 😂 _______________________________________ Also, der Lauf war schön, er war warm, ich habe Meister Adebar (👉🏽wischen) getroffen (und hoffe das war nicht verheißungsvoll 🤭) und auch sonst ne ganz nette Strecke gewählt. Hinterher tat mir alles weh, aber wen interessiert das schon? 🤣 Währenddessen hatte ich mal wieder Magenschmerzen und alte Wehwehchen haben sich gemeldet, meine Schuhe sind platt, aber am Samstag müssen sie noch mal ran, aber auch das kann man alles ignorieren. It was a great training week. Much more energetic. However, the heat slowly crept up on me. Last summer I drudged through some of my treadmill runs in the garage, but I finally decided to move it in for this summer season. You guys, it was a crazy busy #SundayRunday but I wouldn't have it any other way! I love ending the day knowing I accomplished alot & today was one of those days! Woke up bright & early feeling good after yesterday's race (photo from yesterday's 5 mile PR race) and headed to a kickboxing class! 💪👊 After my class I quickly looked at the weather & saw temps would be hitting 90 today! 🌞🔥I dropped off my things at my house; grabbed my garmin, hat & sunglasses and headed out for some recovery miles. Temps were already approaching 80; it was sunny and humid but peaceful. Thankfully this was a recovery run so I kept the pace 1:00 - 1:30/mile slower than yesterday and felt good despite the heat. 6.2 miles - 52:47 (8:31/mile)! We just got some work completed on our house so we spent the day running errands to do some finishing touches! 🏡 Overall a very productive day! Celebrating Memorial Day weekend here in Southern California with some spectacular miles with incredible people! Hung out with fellow pacer @mischkagypsy who led the 4 hour crew. Meanwhile I had the privilege of pacing @rungallowaygirls @coachlizruns and @runnaomi from ⛰ to 🏝 during this mornings #m2bmarathon The weather was fantastic, with forecasted 🌧 never showing and a bit of clouds masking the worst of the ☀️. The course was beautiful, although a bit tougher than expected. Somehow today was one of those days that a lot of people were just off. Despite that, Naomi ran one of her fastest marathons to date, and Liz pulled off a spectacular finishing sprint for a hard earned BQ🦄! Post race celebrations with pacer friends new and old, then it was off to Laguna Hills... What a day! And the weekends not over yet! at Mountain 2 Beach Marathon

What you ( and I) see: fat, rolls, cellulite, not a runner’s body, huge legs, huge mid section, flabby skin...shall I continue?? What I am getting better and better at seeing: strong muscular legs that can carry me 26.2 miles, an overall healthy person who once was morbidly obese, a smile in that oppressive heat and dew point, thumbs up because I can run a pace that not many at my size can, no heel strike! Leaning forward and working on my form! A “real” runner just like those who are much much thinner than I am. This run was an absolute fail. Menstruation absolutely wrecked me this week. (I would normally apologize to the guys who read my posts here but I think it’s time to end #menstruationtaboos and have honest and open conversations about how it affects our lives). Anyway back to the run. It was supposed to be 13. I made a little over 3. Cramps from my navel to my knees just sucked the run out of me. . My nutrition has been a nightmare. I feel like 6 weeks ago my body was totally different. I made a lot of changes, good and bad. I’ve gained around 5lbs - but some possibly muscle - I do have increased muscle tone- when I wanted to lose it. I’m not going to dwell on it the failure of today- I’m going to learn from it. While I love the RunLessRunFaster workouts 25 miles a week for me seems to be killing my stamina. I need to have my long easy runs back. Sooo I was all excited about completing this massive hike today until this guy I had been talking to... became a jerk 🤯and then stopped talking to me. 🤔 It’s amazing how in life negative people can so quickly flip you around. I. Had. To. Stop. 🦶🏽 And assess why I felt so bad about myself. It’s his loss, not mine. 🙂I KNOW that I am strong💪🏽, confident🤪, and about to go on a trip of a lifetime to Italy 🇮🇹 SOLO. So I have a big thing about running in shorts as I get paranoid when they ride up. I’m never going to have ‘skinny’ legs and I’m now as happy as I can be with that. So tonight I went out in a pair of shorts I would never of run in! They rode up but I loved running in them and not constantly pulling them down in case someone saw me! My legs wobbled but I then realised they were running and that was the important thing! So run run run and if bits wobble remember they are wobbling because you are up moving!! #wobblybits #upmoving #wobblewhenyourun #hassocks

🙏🏻 JUST BREATHE.. . . Coming back to simple after I got hit hard with some virus that was so generously shared with me 🤷🏻‍♀️ such is life #momlife. Wasn’t planning on a long run today either way as I have a 10k race tomorrow am- so just wanted some easy gentle miles to keep the legs moving and fresh .. I’ve been here with my running before - to run or not to run ? While dealing with being under the weather . Well, looking at it from the “normal” perspective most would NOT, BUT like I said I’ve been here before - I always - almost always - will give it a try and if it is too difficult or feels dangerous even > then I can stop. Always coming back to being in a moment of intention and deep inner breathes #mindbodysoul. In previous posts I’ve referred often to the mental push / fortitude #mindovermatter piece . This is tough when there is a fine line , but I’m really into the mental toughness training #trainingforlife and this presented as a perfect opportunity . . . Without any specific goals in terms of pace / mileage : except to cap my run by 8 miles so as not to overdue it 😆 I laced up and eased into a comfortable pace , accompanied with H2O and lots of tissues ! 7.5 miles at avg 9min/mile pace , lots of sweating out the toxins 🙌🏻 and yes, even endorphin kick 💫 . . Will take it easy as best I could and drink all the nourishing revitalizing fluids to propel my efforts and maximize results for tomorrow . And I am hopeful and positive that my efforts wont go wasted . For it is all about the journey in the end after all . Keep your inner fire lit , connect with nature and it will uplift you and stoke you when most needed 🔥 . . . MISERY LOVES COMPANY.😥It was my hottest run of the season, by 15 degrees easily. Thankfully I had a this dude to sweat alongside me. We’re both traveling from our respective homes - me from Syracuse and Ian from DC - so finding a running path in an area we’re not familiar with proved to be an adventure. A sticky, hilly adventure. We asked for directions at least three times. Ahh the fun of adding miles because we got off course. 💃🏽 Made it to Kensico Dam and back to Scarsdale along the Bronx River Parkway; a few stops for water and to keep our heart rates in check. I was grateful to have @triathlon.ian for the miles, and that I could practice in heat and humidity. @grandmasmarathon is just under four weeks from today and I need to be prepared for anything Mother Nature lobs my way. And no slouch himself, Ian is prepping for his first IRONMAN in Lake Placid. Congrats to all my buddies who raced this weekend, especially @ottawamarathon, @buffalomarathon! You are so inspiring. 👟 at Bronx River Parkway
