Roman Forum. 🇮🇹 A walk around the Roman Forum is to glimpse into the founding of the ancient Roman Empire. From what was marshland the Romans drained the area and turned it into a centre of political and social activity. The Forum was the marketplace of Rome, and later a gathering space for triumphal processions, criminal trials and gladiatorial matches. The Roman Forum was home to some of the oldest and most important buildings in the ancient city – what you will see today is a mass of ruins, including shrines and temples, such as the House of the Vestal Virgins. The most ancient monuments at the Roman Forum are from the first kings of Rome, dating back to the sixth century BC. The Forum was then abandoned some time in the Middle Ages, and over time, buried under layers of earth, Some temples were transformed into churches, allowing their preservation in the course of time. During the Renaissance the area of the Forum Romanum was used as a marble and stone quarry. However, it was not until 1898 that excavations began to be carried out, revealing what we see today. 🏛 #romanforum #colosseo #colloseorome #roma #Italy #italia #rome #girls #italy🇮🇹 #🇮🇹 #beautiful #tourists #travel #travelphotography #travelblogger #traveling #vscocam #vsco #Ukrainian #romanempire #sunday #ancient #monuments #temples #church #rain #rainyday at Roman Forum

We emerged from the Colosseum triumphant and free from tourist fatigue. While we could have spent a century on the Palatine Hill and in The Forum, walking the wobbly cobblestones of emperors past, the gorgeously restored Santa Caterina a Magnanapoli called to us. As if concocted by some ridiculously perfect script, the church let us in just as the nuns sang final prayers and blew out the candles beneath a Bernini I’ve never met. Later that night I ate pizza with a dear friend under a 70’s purple fishnet belly. I also met Neptune’s Roman cousin and was impressed by his furry smile. #otisrome2019 #colosseum #palatinehill #notenoughtime #theforum #romanforum #theromanforum #santacaterina #ivoatrastevere #neptunegravybones #imissmydog at Colloseum di Roma, Piazza del Colosseo, Roma, Italia

A região da Dalmácia pertenceu por centenas de anos à República de Veneza. São mais do que evidentes as raízes da cultura italiana, principalmente na construção de monumentos e igrejas. ROME II #bestreads2018 ROME: A CULTURAL, VISUAL and PERSONAL HISTORY by ROBERT HUGHES was superb preparation for our first visit to the city. This non-fiction book is thick with history, fable and personal observations starting with the founding of #Rome, through caesars and Mussoloni until the present day. Our perfect tour guide at the Forum and Colisseum described Rome as an "architectural lasagne". So apt. The history he described layered upon the accumulated stories and impressions from this book enhanced my understanding and experience immeasurably. #bookreview, #prose #rome #bostonwriter #bostonwriters #writersofinstagram #book #nonfiction #instaread #bibliophile #booklover #bookworm #readersofinstagram #writing #writerslife #writerscommunity #amreading #readeverywhere #alwaysreading #readstagram #keepreading #womenwhoread #ruins #romanforum #architecture #iwrite at The Rome Forum
