Took a much needed rest day today to keep healing my ankles but I wanted to put up a post to first off thank you 🙏 all for being so motivational and inspiring and also I wanted to tell you a couple of things about myself! •My name is Alexandra but most people call me Alex 🤩 •I’m 23 years young will be 24 on March 27th 🤪 •I started my fitness journey a year ago, I have had many ups and downs but working to be better everyday. •I have a young daughter, who is a big pain in my butt. (Wouldn’t have it any other way!) 🥰 •I have 2 lovely old doggies Bam and Maddi, they are chow chows (and Maddi looks like a fat lion lol ! ❤️🦁 •I love the summer and anything that has to do with it. ☀️🌤🌈 •I am not a fan of winter and hate seeing snow on the ground.. but unfortunately I live in the Midwest in the United States so I see a lot of it ⛄️💨❄️ (I make due) •I am a huge nerd and love reading comics and manga. Roll with the punches – Sometimes things don’t go as planned and you know what that is okay... This morning I woke up with a HUGE headache and an overall not so great feeling but I was determined to still make the day a great one! So I put on my glasses (I only ever wear my glasses when I really don’t feel well) in hopes to help my headache and carry on with my day! In hopes that as the day went on I would feel better.. boy ooo boy was I wrong.. I got worse and more pail as the day went on (I’m pretty tan naturally so you know when I’m feeling blah)! I've had a cold for 3 days and it has been terrible!🤧 • • I've really really been struggling with this whole recovery thing. I SO badly want to work out. I want to jump around and feel my heart rate increase, I want to lift weights and challenge my last set, I want to sweat and work hard but none of that gets my body closer to feeling back to 100%. There were a few time where I almost said "eff it" and took an Orangetheory workout or headed to the gym to do my leg day. I really had to channel that inner responsibility I have as a trainer and remember "What would I tell a client or a member?" I would tell them to listen to their body and take the rest it needs! In truth, I'd rather take a few days and get back at it once I'm recovered than have a crappy workout while I'm sick and prolong my sickness🤷‍♀️ Instead, i did some deep stretching and light mobility work. 💤REST DAYS💤 - Okay my badass, grinding, powerful, strong, independent, hard working friends....let's talk about it. - Yesterday morning I became suddenly very sick. Felt great first thing in the morning but by 9am I could not keep any of my mucous in my face. Despite needing to blow my nose every 4 minutes (even WITH all sorts of medicines and homeopathic remedies on board) I was STILL trying to go to practice! I knew I should stay home, keep my germs to myself, but I was still desperately chugging water and taking supplements to feel well enough to go at 6pm. After much internal struggle I finally decided that I should not share my germs with my teammates 😅 and I stayed home and went to bed early - This morning I woke up feeling better but not 100%...i felt as though I should skip the gym and rest up more for work later in the day and again found myself doing mental gymnastics to justify going anyways. The same thing happened after work today when my coaching was canceled! "Well I should just go get some cardio in at least..." - My friends, I finally decided that I would commit to this full rest day even after taking rest days on Sunday and Monday as well. - Rest days are so so so important but trust me I KNOW how hard it is to take them. - Without proper rest you could suffer from injury, fatigue, poor performance, and even...decreased immunity...😑 - I don't get sick very often (being in health care has given me a pretty tough immune system) but when I do whooo boy it hits me hard. I always joke that I refuse to give my body enough rest and then it forces me into resting with a nasty virus 😅 - Scary how true that is....so take care of yourselves my friends! Day 14/365 FORM RESET?🔂 - I’ve decided that I’ve taken this “deload” as more of a short reset for form. Instead of the week I’ll do 3 days hitting each muscle group once and then go back to my normal routine. Unpopular opinion: I hate rest day. 🤷‍♀️ . Tuesday ended up being my rest day this semester and I still hate them. I love working out and feeling the strength build and rest days make me feel lazy. HOWEVER, it’s all about knowing your own body, when to push it, and when to take a break. . This Tuesday I was a little sore but nothing major. So I compromised and did a pretty intense yoga sesh. 🧘‍♀️ Yoga helps me melt away my problems into the map, and keeps me flexible! If you’ve never tried yoga, give it a whirl! It’s one of my favorite low impact workouts and very healthy not only physically but mentally and spiritually too! . Today has been one of those days I didn’t leave the bed or the couch. Wonder what happens at our house when one of us is under the weather? . . Adjustments (thanks Dad), supplements and oils! Lots of fluids and lots of ningxia red. Sadly, I was under the weather so I rested today and took my own advice. Thieves essential roller bottle on my feet, inner defense 3-4 times daily which is full of immune system supporting oils like Oregano, thyme and lemongrass. Not left my side all day 😇 . Today has been tolerable... 🙄 Not one of those days where you want to scream every time you move a muscle or when it hurts to talk thank goodness, but still not too comfortable 😕 My Chostocondritis is flaring really badly, probably due to overdoing it at the weekend but Dan and I have been decluttering and getting rid of a load of things we don't use or need and I obviously, have to help with that so what's a spoonie to do?! 🤷🏼‍♀️ Still, we got a lot done and I felt really accomplished today so in a way, this pain is manageable knowing we made a good headway into something we've been putting off for months now 😂 So clearly, if I'm having a rubbish one, my shadow is never far behind 🐶 She literally hasn't left me all day and has just been like this amongst a couple of anxiety alerts 😍 If you must know... She even felt like she had to follow me to the loo and back- that's how attached she's been 🙈 Poppy cuddles should be given out on prescription though I think because, well... As much as I’d love to be one who workouts Monday-Friday and rests on the weekends, it’s just more practical for me to rest during the week when I work. ‼️Rest days = MANDATORY for growth‼️ I took this weekend off from the gym and it was probably the best thing I could do for my body, mentally and physically. I hear people shame rest days ALL THE TIME! But let me tell you, we NEED to allow our bodies time to rest! When you lift weights you are essentially tearing muscle fibers. Your body NEEDS rest so your immune system can repair and grow those muscles.💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 • PHYSICALLY: Rest days prevent injury from overuse, which is HUGE! Intense workouts SHOULD NOT be a daily thing. 1 or 2 days will not effect your performance or progress, it will only enhance it. HOWEVER, while you should allow your body to fully recover, don't take so much time off that you lose the gains you have made. I take 2 rest days a week (3 if I truly believe I need it), one on a weekend day and the other depending on my schedule and how my body is feeling overall. I do make sure that I NEVER take more than 2 days off in a row and NEVER take a Monday off, but that's my personal preference. My rest days usually consist of sleeping in, running errands, cleaning, and spending time with my family and boyfriend. Rest days don't have to be sitting on the couch all day. STAY ACTIVE, but STAY AWAY from the weights.🚫🚫🚫 MENTALLY: Overtraining can put your body into a constant state of restlessness. While this falls under physical too, it effects your mentally more in my opinion. Restlessness can cause it to be hard to sleep. I can attest to this. I workout in the evening and getting to bed at a decent time is HARD! This is one reason I stopped taking pre-workout before my week day workouts. I would get done with my workout, come home and shower, and then have so much energy that I'm awake until 1 or 2A.M. While this is something that I am working on, because I am by no means a morning person, I am almost forcing myself to sleep each night. This is where rest days come in. Sleeping in and catching up. Rest days can also rekindle your hunger for exercise and help prevent burnout. You should NEVER feel guilty about a rest day. I'm guilty of this. Guilty of feeling guilty. But if you do, use that to fuel your workout the next day.🔥🔥🔥 #restday

Evitar lesiones, mejorar el rendimiento y simplemente sentirnos bien depende en gran medida de una buena recuperación y de descansar después de hacer ejercicios y Respetar los tiempos ⏰de las sesiones de Entrenamiento 🏋️‍♀️ Médicos, entrenadores o fisioterapeutas… Todos coinciden en la importancia del descanso tras el ejercicio. Es un error común pensar que hacer deporte a diario, al máximo de nuestras capacidades, es la mejor opción para obtener resultados rápidos y alcanzar la meta que nos hemos propuesto. El cuerpo 🏃🏻‍♂️🏃🏻‍♀️necesita un periodo de recuperación después del esfuerzo. Si no lo respetamos, todos los beneficios que aporta el deporte dejan de estar presentes y el entrenamiento pierde su principal objetivo: mejorar la salud y el bienestar. Da igual que practiques un deporte aeróbico como el ciclismo, la natación o el running, o que trabajes fuerza en el gimnasio🏋️‍♀️. En cualquier caso, el descanso después de entrenar es básico Después de un entrenamiento intenso las fibras musculares se deterioran y sufren micro roturas. Solo el descanso y una buena dosis de proteína logran la reparación de esos tejidos, favoreciendo su crecimiento. No hay que olvidar que los músculos “crecen” no cuando estamos entrenando, sino cuando están en estado de reposo tras el esfuerzo. El suficiente descanso tras el deporte es la mejor manera de prevenir la sobrecarga, el agotamiento y las lesiones. My fingers are feeling DESTROYED after an intense (for me) 6b+ top-rope route this evening, every move was so much EFFORT!!!🧗‍♀️ I'm normally climbing 6a's comfortably. Life is full of unexpected circumstances...when a situation arises it’s about how you deal with it...sometimes things are just out of your control, honestly I’ve struggled with this a lot and I still do at times I tend to beat myself up even if it was out of my hands...
