(1/3) Before Pride Month is over, I thought I’d take the opportunity to share two things you may not know about me: I’m a poet, and I’m bisexual.
I haven’t been with a guy in a long time. I don’t know if I’ll ever be with a guy again. For a long time, I saw myself as “have been” bisexual, owning it no further. But now, after years of warming up to the idea, I’m ready to proudly say: I have been bisexual, and I am bisexual.
I view the coming out moment as sacred and precious, and lest you think I’d actually waste it on Instagram, in this trio of posts you’ll see where I originally came out - in the pages of my very first book of poetry, “Yes, I Still Talk About Geese.” I actually came out a few times in this collection of poems (which will be my next release, later this year), and my favorite instance is this particular poem, Spicy Pepperoni.
2018 has been a nightmare for so many of our sisters and brothers who are still, to this day, shamefully relegated to the margins of society. Today’s disgraceful Supreme Court vote is the latest example of the backwards direction in which America is heading. There is lots of work to do, and in addition to giving my time and energy in the real world to help, I plan on posting much less about me here now. But I really wanted to take this moment and share my pride with you that, in the midst of this cruel year, I managed to rack up two vital milestones in my own life: I wrote my first book of poetry. I came out in my first book of poetry. 🏳️🌈 #Pride #pridemonth #LGBTQ #bisexual #EndFamilyDetention #ReuniteFamiliesNOW #AbolishICE #AbolishCBP #NoMuslimBanEVER #NoBanNoWall #RESIST
