Bonefrog Endurance - Austin, TX - 02.16.19
I did not know what to expect from this, to be honest. It was a humbling experience. I got my ass handed to me.
For starters, why am I wearing my glasses? I forgot my contacts and my sports glasses at home… I also forgot my first aid kit. #fail
It was COLD outside. It started around 40 F and then probably reached a high of 70 F. I would rather have this than sweltering heat.
After each lap, even the simplest of obstacles that I could do in my sleep got so much more difficult. I had to dig deep in my toolbox to get myself over those walls, up the ropes, and across the finish line.
There were three obstacles that I failed. The grips on these were pretty rough on your hands. Though I did not want to fall in my mind, my hands did not cooperate with me. At times, I felt my hands were splitting in two.
I could only complete the Chopper (which is pictured) the first time. That obstacle got worse and worse after each lap.
The terrain was rocky and rough. Trail running is different from track or pavement running. It takes its toll on your knees and hips after awhile.
I got the Gold Frog (which is five laps completed) which was the goal I had for myself. I am content with my progress so far, but I still have much room for improvement.
The Gold Frog came at a cost. I got a nasty bruise on my left thigh after tripping on a branch in the lake. Pick up your feet if you are wading through the lake. My IT bands were also tightening up. (At least, I did not have leg cramps.) I want redemption at Bonefrog. Sadly, it does not look like I will be able to do this again until next year unless they add more venues that are closer to me. Next time, I’ll change my shirt after every lap to help differentiate the laps.
I would recommend this to any OCR fan. If you are an OCR veteran, try your luck at the Endurance or Trident. “The only easy day was yesterday."
