🌈Queer Engagement Story🌈
Three years ago today (which, yes, happened to be Valentine's Day), @dazzosf and I were on vacation in Whistler, BC (but because it was Canada, we're pretending it wasn't). That morning, I came back to my side of the bed to find a rolled up pair of socks on my pillow. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"I don't know, why don't you look inside," said Sara.
Puzzled, I reached into the the socks and pulled out a box. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"What IS this?"
"I don't know, why don't you open it," said Sara.
Really, REALLY confused, I opened the box and inside was a beautiful gold ring that looked like a Greek crown.
"What IS this?"
"You told me to tell you when I was ready and I thought this was a good way to let you know," said Sara.
Still baffled, I said, "Is this ring for you?" thinking maybe it was a promise ring so I could propose to Her later (we’d always talked about me being the one to propose). I genuinely did not understand what was happening.
"No, it's for you."
"Are you asking me to marry you?"
"Yes." (with a huge smile)
(lots and lots of tears of joy) "Yes, of course!" (more tears, kissing)
And just like that, we were engaged. —————————————————
I never wanted to be married. My parents divorced when I was 9, and I never felt like it was something that was in my path. I just thought I’d have lots of lovers who taught me great life lessons along the way. When I met @dazzosf way back in 2007 through a mutual friend, I knew I had to know her. We spent one weekend talking all things food, libations, soccer, and hiking. Then she went back to Denver and I stayed in Boston. She had a layover a few months later at Logan Airport and I met her for two hours just to chat. Little did I know we’d lose touch for three years and reappear in each other’s lives at El Rio during Pride 2010. We danced all night (the photographer took a photo of us and said we made a cute couple), exchanged numbers and started talking the next day. I broke up with my ex a week later and the rest is herstory. Happy V Day, folx! 🌈❤️🌈🧡🌈💛🌈💚🌈💙🌈💜🌈 at Whistler, Canada
