I've taken KonMari to heart in a major way these last few weeks. I started with my possessions. I have purged hundreds of pounds of dead weight - trinkets, documents, clothes, books, furniture, etc. - and it's been so liberating to have what I really need and want. The rest is now so organized and properly arranged that home feels like a true peaceful place. It sparks joy.
Next, I progressed to my finances. For a long time I wasted a lot of money on pointless, joyless junk. I have now have a proper budget. I'm saving. I'm making short term sacrifices that will yield long term gains. I will be able to afford the travel I've long desired, months of emergency funds, and I will have zero debt in three years. Including a student loan I will pay off seven years early. This sparks joy.
I then progressed to my time, which I also waste. I'm reading and writing again, and I will incorporate art soon. This sparks immense joy. I am working out nearly daily, and watching my body become what I want it to be motivates me to keep improving. I am focused on being intentional with my emotional, social, mental, and physical health.
I had a lot of free time this weekend to contemplate what's next. The next logical progression in my KonMari journey is people. This area is probably my biggest challenge - making time in a meaningful way to be present for the people close to my heart. The people who long for my presence in intentional, tangible, meaningful ways. Not taps and snaps and likes and swipes. Actual connection. ...And not giving it to those who are not and who don't. I have no time for the ambivalent, disinterested, and uninvested. I anticipate this also sparking immense joy.
I'm turning 35 this year, and I don't have time for the same old trends. The clock is ticking, and I deserve that time to be filled with joy. I'm well on my way.
Don't settle for less.
