My ‘bodyguards’ during almost 2 hour night hike to attend a Vodou ceremony in the mountains of Jacmel.
Haiti was the last Caribbean island country left for me to explore in order to complete my Caribbean travel guide. I didn’t want to leave Haiti out of it. I decided to go and check for myself what is the real situation in that country and if it’s possible to enjoy as a tourist what that island has to offer.
When I booked my air ticket to Port-au-Prince with a departure date January 7, 2019, I didn’t know that date is when the President Jovenel Moise started serving as a President of Haiti in 2017. Upon arrival in Haiti on January 7, Haitian people were already protesting demanding President Moise's resignation. I was picked up by my AirBnb host from the airport and remained stuck indoors until next day at the AirBnb accommodation in Port-au-Prince.
Unfortunately, I must say that Haiti is the most conflicted place on Earth I’ve visited so far. It’s a beautiful country just like any other Caribbean nation with some wonderful local people, however the political situation, the anger and violence at this time in that country are terrifying. —————————————
