"The stress of a low-carb / low-sugar diet, and stress in general, decreases our production of carbon dioxide (putting us in a low metabolic state), and actually increases the glycation of proteins. So too does fasting and under-eating, as stored PUFA are released into the bloodstream. . *Sugar, specifically “sucrose”, a simpler carbohydrate found in high amounts in ripe fruits, orange juice, real honey and white cane sugar (pure sucrose), is essential for lowering stress, increasing thyroid (T3) production, supporting metabolism and energizing the liver; all factors in lowering catabolic stress hormones, slowing general degeneration, supporting youthful energy production, and a more youthful appearance too. . Polyunsaturated fats (PUFA) include all liquid vegetable oils (the fats found in most processed foods which include Canola oil, soy oil, corn oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, fish oil, flax oil etc, with the exception of Extra Virgin Olive Oil) and the fats present in things like grains, seeds, nuts, legumes and conventional poultry. These fats are unstable to oxygen, light and heat and oxidise (spoil) easily resulting in free radical damage (inside and out). HI FRIENDS!✨ - I was recently asked by a client what the most common issue is that I’ve come across when helping clients work through their nutrition habits, and my response was that they are not eating enough!! When you go too far into a caloric deficit, esp when paired with intense training week to week, your body actually starts storing fat as a result of that “fight or flight” mode. This can lead to many things, like poor performance, a plateau in progress, stored fat, weight gain, compromised immune system, metabolic adaptation (hormone imbalances), just to name a few. - While yes, fat loss, in simplistic terms, comes down to energy balance (calories in vs. calories out) it’s also crucial to make sure that there isn’t a huge variance in your deficit. Your body needs all the nutrients it can get and when you start to deprive yourself, your body starts to slowly shut down. Take myself for example- I am 5’0 tall, 105lbs and I workout 4x / week on average. While I’m not in a cut phase at the moment, I typically consume between 1800-2000 calories daily. 🍎Moral of the story- EAT!🍎 - This is why I always have my clients do food assessments/ food logging with me periodically so I can assess what their general daily intake looks like and then I can guide them on ways to improve this! Most of the time, they think they are eating too much and that’s why they aren’t seeing results when a lot of the times it turns out to be the total opposite! This that "I only got 30 minutes" workout. Kicking it off with some flexibility moves. Then the first three exercises is a circuit with a minute of rest in between circuits for 4 rounds Next is a kettlebell move I just made up on the fly for 4 sets. Life is all about BALANCE Yes I train and yes I have goals I want to achieve. Yes I love the gym and yes I go as often as I can. But notice how I say as often AS I CAN. The gym is very important to me not only because I want to keep fit and heathy but also for my mental health- the gym keeps me sane and lowers my stress😅 however, I also have work and uni studies and family and friends and a boyfriend🥰 so there are other things I like to spend my time doing too. If I sacrificed something to be able to train more I wouldn’t be as happy and content as I am, no I may not be in the best shape I can right now but I know there are more important things I have in my life besides the gym✨ So when you feel bad for missing a session because you had work or deadlines or a friends birthday or anything really that you chose was more important, don’t feel bad for it. Because the gym will always be there tomorrow but time with friends/family/yourself isn’t always guaranteed. Spend time doing the things you love with the people you love, find the balance that works for you😇
