Some “Old School” fun!
I’m not always a fan of some of the ‘things’ my eldest brings home from school; behaviours or words we wouldn’t normally use etc, but sometimes they are beautiful, wonderful gifts to our family.
Songs or learning rhymes, books, sports skills etc have been lovely, and yesterday it was the concept of a “Chatterbox”. (That’s what we called them at school, not sure what you may have called them, if it was something you played with.)
“Mum, can you make me one of those things, where the four triangles meet?”
Ok, mum-brain, switch on. “Bud, I’m going to need more information.”
“Yes, you know!” (Clearly the concept of ‘more information’ has been lost on this child! 🙄😉) “I’ll get some paper.”
Ok, ok. It involves paper and four triangles meet.... hmmm.. “Do you mean a Chatterbox?”
“Yes. Can you make me one?”
And because his brother is immediately interested in everything his older brother does, he also began making one (see pic 2, 3). .
Not only did we have fun at home with this beautifully simple maths, fine motor, sequencing, spelling, writing and ‘words of affirmation’ game, but it continued at school, both before and after in the playground as other children watched, learned, made and played. 😍
