With the PR Energy Tool Kit, we were able to show how long it took for the last 30% of families to restore their power after Hurricane Maria hit. For these families, it took at least 130 days to regain electricity, and for some it took upwards of 270 days. “These 200,000 families need to have immediate access to solar panels and batteries, and by 2020 those vulnerabilities should be covered. These families should be the main energy policy priority for 2020." -Marcel Castro-Sitiriche⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ Community-based renewable energy projects like RPPR are making this possible. I started 2018 in my Matria, my motherlands, borinken, Puerto Rico, helping rebuild farms like Finca 5 Elementos damaged by Hurricane María. Brigadas solidarias were organized by @cjaourpower @organizacion_boricua and the Black Dirt Farm collective. Farm owner Ricardo is the first photo, he was incredibly greatful for the hard work of the farm brigade. He works the lands of his grandparents... when the brigade arrived he had lost a bunch of green houses to the storm, the land hadn’t been cultivated since Maria. We took down the busted up remains of greenhouses, weeded the soil, and planted peanuts, squash, cucumbers, and other veggies. @insta.viacampesina #huerto #ourpowerpr #boricua #puertorico big shoutout to my love Shakara Tyler for hooking it up! #puertorico at Naranjito, Puerto Rico

I might loose some friends/followers but it’s ok! __ Nearly one year ago, Hurricane Maria ravaged Puerto Rico. The storm left almost the entire Island without food, electricity, or clean water and led to the deaths of as many as 4,645 U.S. citizens. Since then, Hurricane survivors have also become victims of government inefficiency, discrimination and neglect. Puerto Rico deserves the same attention and treatment as other areas on the mainland readily received after natural disasters. __ #justiceforpuertorico #power4puertorico #boricuasremember #ourpowerpr #ourpowerprnyc #justiceforpuertorico #1yearaftermaria #unity #puertorico #puertoricoselevanta #hurricanemaria #resiste #beinspired #bebold #standforsomething #nycprotest #4645 #4645boricuas #nyc #protest at New York, New York

🇵🇷🎨 #ArtIsAWeapon #PuertoRico #Art @chrissotoart. Today's 61st Annual National Puerto Rican Day Parade @prparadenyc will be a celebration of #PRpride, #music and #culture and also a platform to continue to raise awareness about the actual death toll and devastation after #HurricaneMaria. Ten months later, the island is still rebuilding, while a recent Harvard study revealed that more than 4,600 people perished due to the “interruption of medical care," and the federal government's inhumane, inadequate response. (https://hbr.org/2018/06/what-hurricane-marias-death-toll-reveals-about-health-care-in-puerto-rico). Today's parade route is from 44th to 79th Streets on Fifth Avenue, beginning at 11:00 AM ET, and will air on WABC-TV, Channel 7 @abc7ny, and live stream at www.abc7ny.com. __________________ You can help Puerto Rico by: ✔learning about and #supporting the work of #OurPowerPR: www.ourpowercampaign.org/; ✔ supporting and donating to the work of activist @blackpuertoricanphd #RosaClemente's #PROnTheMap transmedia campaign http://pronthemap.com/; ✔making a donation at https://buff.ly/2sQ72f2 - @Google (one of the parade's sponsores) will match donations up to $2M. ______________________ #4656Boricuas #PuertoRicanDayParade #puertoricostrong #WEPA #PRDayParade #TraScapades #ArtIsAWeapon #ChrisSotoArt at National Puerto Rican Day Parade

The week can't end until we've gotten a chance to remind you that this week, the resilient Island of Puerto Rico hit 6 months since these climate disasters back to back climate disasters trampled it. ⠀ ⠀ September 20, 2017 Hurricane Maria touches soil and soon after it is terrorized by continuous heavy rainfall that makes the already loose soil even more dangerous. ⠀ ⠀ Puerto Rico has gone through so much turmoil and been given an almost brand new slate to work off of since all farms, homes, schools, and many other things were uprooted and destroyed. ⠀ ⠀ But our brothers and sisters of the island are fighters and have worked day in and day out to rebuild the pueblos and farms to be more sustainable.⠀ ⠀ Luckily we have been able to listen and work alongside our member on the ground @organizacion_boricua and journey through the island while helping cultivate, connect with and captivate a Puerto Rico by Boricuas for Boricuas ⠀ ⠀ thanks to all our members and YOU for donating, contributing through conversation, participating or signing our petition in order to help in what ways we can. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ STILL It is NOT over, with all the work that has been done there continues to be houses without light and clean running water and the danger of the privatization of all basic needs. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ KEEP Puerto Rico in the NEWS.⠀ ⠀ #OurPowerPR at Puerto Rico

Check out this blog by one of our delegates from the January Food and Solidarity Brigade!! ⠀ ⠀ "Throughout our visit, it was evident that the government still is not doing much to support many communities in the recovery — but what is also clear is that the people of Puerto Rico are building power, organizing and working toward a new vision that is controlled and created by them, not corporations or the government." - Dario Parra @greenpeaceusa at Naranjito, Puerto Rico

Throw back to the first jars from the first donation by jersey farm in Sunset Park greenmarket. Around 400+ jars of canned fresh local produce were preserved and sent to Puerto Rico. The largest shipment finally arrived! We’re working on a plan to distribute these jars to comedores sociales (community kitchens) in the CAMs and farmers. Many thanks to all who made this possible. #fullcircle #ourpowerpr #ourpowerprnyc #queersinthekitchen #queerkitchenbrigade #cuirkitchenbrigade #boricuirs at Carolina, Puerto Rico

This week we're joining #OrganizaciónBoricuá, @cjaourpowercampaign, and @uprosebrooklyn in Puerto Rico for the #OurPowerPR Delegation to support a #JustRecovery. Yesterday, we were able to join students and members of the Food Sovereignty and Solidarity Brigades at the Botijas Community Agroecology School and experience how students, family farms and community members are working to achieve #foodsovereignty and #justrecovery after Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. It's absolutely inspiring and powerful to see how youth and the rest of the community are working together to have #foodsovereignty through sustainable community-led farming. Thank you to the students, the school and community for welcoming us. #solidarity #justrecovery #puertorico #foodsovereignty #boricua #love #community at Orocovis, Puerto Rico
