For some (many) reason(s), it's been a real struggle to get out on the trails this year. Injury, illness, weather... Yes, all of those, and probably some other things too. It gets crowded and noisy inside my head sometimes. *** Well, on Sunday I managed to break free and go solo out on a familiar trail. Hoo boy, it was amazing. I saw trillium by the handful, listened to dozens of birds and saw the teeniest squirrel kit ever (SO CUTE). There was a lot of mud, several tons of winter storm damage and the constant scent of cedar in my nose. *** Eventually there was a deadfall I just couldn't find a safe route around, so I had a snack and headed back to the trailhead. I think I may have smiled more in the 2.5 hours I was on the trail than I have in months. *** Where to next weekend?
