I LIKE BIG HUTS AND I CAN NOT LIE!
Have you ever met someone with a truly great product or service and secretly wondered why they aren’t more successful? That’s what travel in Africa feels like to me. A continent with so much beauty, and yet, when you look at the places social media tells you to visit, very few African countries are on the list. At best, they show you countries in Africa and specific areas in countries that mimic Western countries..as if there isn’t beauty in non-westernized ways of life. I digress.
There’s typically good reason for this though. For starters, in the past, a lot of close-minded/one-dimensional/ a-list type travelers have put out really skewed perspectives and used really poor images to feed into this tired narrative about africa being this scary scary place. The media has done a devastatingly incredible job of also pushing that same rhetoric.
Speaking in the most general terms—do countries on the African continent have serious issues? Of course! As do countries in Europe, Asia, and every other continent. But thanks to social media, more people are beginning to understand that the targeted negative stories incessantly spewed about the African continent are partial and often times misguided. (Slide right on pic to see what I mean 😀)
While learning from others is important, sometimes, if not most times, YOU are the best person to inform your own perspectives about a place, people, based on YOUR own experiences because factors that may affect someone’s experiences may not be applicable to you.
So, I encourage you to travel anywhere, travel everywhere, but most importantly, travel Africa. Form your own opinions. at Liberia
