Many people don’t realise that in the dairy industry, mother cows must be kept almost continuously pregnant in order to give milk; by injecting a long needle filled with bulls semen (just guess how that’s obtained) into her vulva and forcibly impregnating her. 🐮
I’ve heard some have a problem with calling this ‘rape’ saying it devalues their experience. For the sake of this post and as someone who has experienced it; I feel I have the right to say that it is the same thing in hindsight.
There is no consent involved and it isn’t wanted, there is a power imbalance at play and that cow is being exploited for their body; exactly like a victim of rape. 🐮
Calves never get to stay with their mum; we want their milk = babies don’t get it. Missing out on the essential nutrients and close bonding experience that a mother and baby have whilst breastfeeding.
Their fate really depends on their gender;
Boys are either killed on the spot using blunt force to the head (usually that bc it’s cheaper) or shot. OR allowed a few weeks of life then murdered for veal. A baby. 🐮
Mother cows spend their whole lives this way. Baby after baby taken away, attached to painful milking machines that suck the life out of her gradually. 🐮
If you have the gift of being a mum imagine breastfeeding your whole life and never getting to feed your child you’ve been separated from. 🐮
When a mum cow isn’t making enough milk anymore or too sick to carry on or she is ‘spent’ a word used by dairy farmers which means; fallen down and can’t get up bc they are so weak and exhausted. This can happen from as young as 5 years. A tiny fraction of their 20 year average lifespan. 🐮
Guess where she will end up? In a slaughterhouse throat slit hung up by her hoof for something that humans don’t even NEED. Spent dairy cows are murdered and commonly used for low grade burger or mince meat.
Dairy industry IS the meat industry and they are both horrendously cruel and unnecessary for human survival.
