𝔻𝕒𝕪 𝟙𝟚𝟚. 𝔸𝕡𝕣𝕚𝕝 𝟙𝟠𝕥𝕙 𝟚𝟘𝟙𝟡- continued...... So we finally got to Rivas!
We were pounced on by taxi and tuk-tuk drivers who all wanted our fare to the ferry port.
After agreeing on (quarter of the originally asked price), we made our way to the port. It was around 10.30 now and we were doing well for time!
Our hearts sank when we saw the huge line snaking from the ticket office, around past the tour offices and right into the carpark!!!! It’s Holy Week and hordes of Nicaraguan locals were here to go over to Ometepe Island for the holidays.
After 20 minutes in the queue in the 35 degree heat we were both melting and a little worried we were gonna miss the 11.30 ferry....
The ferry came and went..... It was hard finding other information about the next ferry and everyone was frying in the heat with no shade!
The 12 o’clock ferry came and went, as did the 1 and then the 2.30....... We’d befriended a couple of Honduran girls who were in front of us in the queue (and could speak Spanish) and a group of French Canadians behind us. Between us we tried to find out information.
Eventually we got tickets for the 4pm ferry!!! We were saturated with sweat and a little sunburnt but so happy to be on our way.
The ferry took around an hour and as we sailed across the lake the sun began to set.
When we arrived on Ometepe Island, we said goodbye to our new found friends and checked into The Landing Hotel.
A fun but exhausting day. .
