Heart reaches the size of a brain!!
This is cardiomegaly related to a case of morbid obesity, where the size of the heart approximates that of the brain!!
Take a look at these 2 organs, the heart should normally be significantly smaller than the brain.
Causes can be due to coronary artery disease and pathologies of the heart muscle or valves, arterial hypertension, arrhythmias, and pulmonary hypertension. Morbid obesity directly correlates to these conditions, leading to sudden death by a combination of cardiomegaly, left ventricular dilation, and myocyte hypertrophy in the absence of interstitial fibrosis.
The heart enlarges in response to damage of the heart muscle, most commonly as a left ventricular hypertrophy.
Obesity produces an increase in total blood volume and cardiac output because of the high metabolic activity of excessive fat. Eventually, the heart grows larger to compensate for the larger body.
Up to a point, enlargement permits the heart to continue to pump blood normally. As enlargement progresses though, the heart's pumping ability declines.
