Something on my mind the day I turn 30. Also appropriate for Memorial Day - if we really want to honor all those who gave their lives for this country, maybe listening to each other should be part of that. Not hate - never hate - but seeking to understand.
The facebook post that set me off is the last page. What's below this is the text of my facebook post. You want to wish me a happy birthday? Very easy - if you play for @gatorssb, win your game. Whether you do or not, if you have a pulse - listen to other people.
I turned 30 today. I only want 2 things.
1: for the Gators to win a softball game.
2: related to the screencap of a post attached to this - for people to stop wanting to only hear from people they agree with. God forbid we hear more than one point of view at a university. I thought the whole point was ideas? Now we get mad if speakers don't just parrot what we already think? I'm pro-life and far more pro-gun-rights than most New Yorkers and I think I've found a way to operate civilly and interact with the opposing position, which comes from the supposedly 'tolerant' side of American politics. Is it so heinous to think perhaps they might want to listen too? Because some of us hate Trumpism as much as you and don't actually want free guns given out at government-mandated birth. Not everyone who advocates for the unborn and 2A rights is Richard Spencer or Ben Shapiro.
The New York bubble is real, both musically and politically, and this kind of thing is why.
But our discourse in 2019 is broken so there's literally no chance, zero percent possibility, of me getting the second one, so I'll settle for the first one.
GO THE GATORS.
