I never had a dog growing up. It took my husband 13.5 years of begging for a dog before I said ok. But, I wanted one that 1. Wasn’t a puppy, 2. Wouldn’t shed. I know, near impossible, right? Thanks to @doodlerockrescue , we found our Macy girl last fall. . . As a runner, I was often asked if I run with my dog. Wellll... she only has three legs. #tripawd dogs aren’t usually great runners 😉🤣. And that’s just fine with me, because I didn’t really want to have to stop a million times for a dog. . . Turns out, Macy girl CAN run a mile. And, she did it in 10:26 today. Not too shabby. 👏🏻🐶 . . After my shoulder/HIIT workout this morning, I wanted to check out the tendinitis in my knee today, so I took her along. While she did great, based on that mile, I know I need to rest more. 👎🏼😢 . . Maybe she’s not a runner like other dogs, but it made my heart happy to have her furry company today. Plus, she’ll sleep like a baby the rest of the day! 😂😂😂 . . Just because I have a set back, that doesn’t mean I quit. And neither should you. As a coach, I’ve learned my biggest job is working on my OWN health first. That means refusing the store bought cookie last night and eating the clean version I made. It means showing up with my weights and workouts I CAN do, even though I’m not running 25 miles/week. It means doing the best I can do that I can pour out to others. Do you need that kind of motivation to keep going when you have a set back? Being a coach has been the sole reason for my consistency. New PB - RunThrough Hyde Park 5km. Yesterday was supposed to be a 10km PB attempt but stomach cramps throughout the afternoon and agony on the start line ended that before it began 🙄 . But I'd turned up for a race so pushed through the pain for a 5km PB and 4th place finish 🙂 not what I went for but wasn't going to leave empty handed. . The last year has been about marathons and ultras so I've never really had a 5km PB beyond hilly park runs. Think if I do one on a good day I can hit a sub-17:30 🏃‍♂️ . 3 days to my first marathon. . Just saying that in my head brings a wave of dread and excitement... this is going to be a crazy experience. . From a nutrition perspective I’m focusing on hydration, electrolytes, whole carbs simple and complex, low fat intake and protein to ensure I’m fully repaired from the last 16 weeks of training. . As part of my “get this done” nutrition plan I’ve made up a batch of my famous purple go fast nuggets (aka pickled beets). The vinegar is cloudy as it’s unfiltered and unpasteurized apple cider vinegar heavily infused with turmeric, cinnamon, cloves, and bay leaves. These are nitro-beets. They’re going to turn my cardiovascular system into a high speed oxygen delivery system. . Loads of whole grain pasta and potatoes in my immediate future. There is a lot of confusion about this topic. Its important to consider the bigger picture first: where in the Season are you? What is the extent of your being sick? Here are a few certainties: if its a minor head cold you can still train, although it would be abbreviated in nature. If you have a fever then you do not run until your temperature goes back to normal. I encourage you to consult with a physician either way bases on your symptoms. Dr. Jack Daniels goes into greater detail in his book The Running Formula but here are my insights on the subject, based on years of experience (good and bad lessons). Remember, a few easier days/missing a workout won’t hurt you. Pushing through it all and having to shut down for 10 days will. 💪🏼Let’s cure that leg!💪🏼You already know, as I am continuously pestering about it, I have been injured for a while and unable to train properly 😰😰I am already doing Tecar Therapy and Microcurrent applications, but I’m so fed up about not being able to train properly that I was looking for something that could improve my recovery even further, and I found out this study made on rugby Italian National team athletes, supporting the theory that Whole Body Cryotherapy induces bone remodelling: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/23000054/ 🤗🤗 I checked and “Bingo”! There is one in London (actually more than one, but the one I went to has a proper chamber, like a walk-in fridge). In brief, I had to wear shorts and bra, a protective mask, ear band, gloves and special shoes and I was in for 3 minutes at -120°C. They put the music on and it was cold but not unbearable: it doesn’t feel worse than a quick dip in icy waters (and I do enjoy a freezing dip after a run). As I exit the chamber, I feel refreshed; my body temperature is measured 19°C. Prior to the treatment, I measured in at 32°C❄️❄️❄️ I’ll do some other session in the next few weeks and I hope that my leg will get benefits from it (and if not I hope it burns some fat at least 😜😜). I Love a good hill session, hills are kind of the rice and beans of the burrito. In high school we used to do 3X 600-400-300-200 uphill, it was probably not supposed to be all out but it always was, for me anyway. In college we did 20X150 meters uphill in early season training. It was always supposed to be all out, and it always was. I remember having headaches for the rest of the day after those workouts. 🇩🇰 official 4:12:01 #marathon14 warm day in Copenhagen...😰😰😰🚿🚿🚿- I saw a number of Runners having trouble, like far from the Finish still, I'm really glad with my time, no stopping, no walking, but lots of energy drink cups plus my own gels... Actually I'm happy I'd never been to Copenhagen before (except the airport, aerial view) 'cause I've just been to the WHOLE City!!😍 and I must say I'm accustomed to these Nordic harbour towns, after all Copenhagen looks a bit like Amsterdam, but today we ran through some really outstanding downtown streets...The Marathon was predominantly Scandinavian, as you might expect. I had a pain in my right knee that would come on if I ran more than 3mi. • What did you *think* was the issue? I was worried it was related to my knee cap and it might be loose cartilage that may have required surgery. • What was the actual issue? My IT band was tight from too many miles, especially with my specific running style. • What are you looking forward to once you're running again? Training for New York this Autumn, enjoying the better weather, getting group runs in again and being able to escape to running again. • How are you empowered by running? Truth! I love everything about running but what really excites me is good nutrition. When you put the two together, it’s crazy how good you can feel! I’m not vegan, vegetarian, paleo, keto, or whatever. I’m just me. I love everything about food and I do eat Whole Organic Foods. When I do eat chicken, it’s Organic and most often from local farmers. My salmon and other fish is wild. I love my veggies. I eat lots of them. I do believe a plant based diet is healthier way to live, but I’m not opposed to adding in lean protein sources. I don’t eat much sugar....a piece of dark chocolate almost daily though. It’s my treat. On special occasions I may enjoy a delicious pastry....especially after a race. I love my green smoothies every morning. Shaklee has been amazing!
