This quote is 💯 for me today, and I hope it brings you some food for thought as well.
We had great Easter celebrations over the weekend, made great memories and loved on our little man... and got dealt a healthy dose of mom shaming and parent guilt.
I really debated sharing this, because I don’t want it to sour the beauty of our Easter memories and what the day is really about. But I have a feeling there is someone else out there who can relate or who needs to hear this.
We don’t give Camden foods that have white sugar in them. We do sometimes give him things sweetened with honey, but most of his snacks have no added sugar. Which means he doesn’t eat candy or chocolate or cookies or cupcakes.
Because he’s one year old and doesn’t understand those things are treats yet. When he’s old enough to understand that, we’ll let him choose occasional treats in moderation.
But for now? No sugar. And at Easter that means no Easter candy. 😮🙄 So I got to hear people make comments to me about how I was a ‘mean mom’ and a ‘buzzkill’ and ‘no fun.’ .
Instead of accepting my parenting decisions and respecting them, they just want to tell me what a terrible parent I am. And yet, when Camden figured out there were @plumorganics Teensy Fruits and @imaginesnacks crackers in his eggs, he couldn’t get them open fast enough to eat them! .
I can show you videos - it’s cute. But here’s the thing: I don’t have to validate my decisions to anyone. I don’t have to let you tell me what I should let my kid eat. .
And here’s the deal: do you let your toddler have sugar every day? Or only on special occasions? Or not at all? Guess what - I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU DO. Good for you - it’s what works for you and your family. Do it. It’s not my business. .
Why do people feel the need to judge? Sometimes I wonder if it’s to convince themselves that what they’re doing is right; because if they can make me feel wrong, they must be right. And that’s just sad.
My promise to you: I will make the best decisions for my family and child, and I will not give two flips what you think. .
