What influences were the most significant in shaping Russian culture & identity? - To some extent the Vikings influenced the Russians, since there is the theory that the Runes used by the Norsemen is what helped develop the Cyrillic alphabet, but as we know, St. Methodius and St. Cyril invented it, but the theory still lingers that they were influenced. The Vikings, or the Rus, also are credited with giving birth to Russia, since they were the first to begin making larger communities of people to unite them together, leading to their baptism into the church and establishing a commercial foothold. The Byzantine had influence as well, since missionaries traveled up to the Slavic peoples and helped to convert the Slavs from paganism to the Orthodox faith. Interesting as it is, the Slavic peoples are split between the Cyrillic and Latin alphabet. For example, my family and I are Polish and the tongue uses the Latin alphabet along with those from the Western Slav group typically. This is since, when converted to Christianity, the Western half favoured Roman Catholicism and wanted to have their ties closer to the Church in Rome and so they adopted the Latin alphabet to form off of. The Eastern half, however, is predominantly Orthodox, for example my Ukrainian neighbours, and so it leads to the assumption that the countries more of using the Cyrillic alphabet are Orthodox to have their ties there. - - - - - - #worldhistory #history #historia #geschichte #apeh #apeuro #prehistory #rus #russia #russians #vikings #norsemen #orthodox #religion #cyrillic #linguistics #languages #ukrainian #polish #latin #viking #scandinavia #norsemythology

Reduplication is a concept in linguistics where a word is repeated right next to eachother, like bye-bye or choo-choo. Ablaut reduplication is similar but where the internal vowels are changed, like the tick-tock of a clock. This houses one of the weird hidden rules of the english language, called the I-A-O rule. When short vowels are used in ablaut reduplication they always follow this order. This is why zag-zig, hop-hip, tac-tic, pong-ping all feel so horrible to say. #etymology #didyouknow #linguistics #language #grammar #grammarpolice at Selly Oak, Birmingham, United Kingdom

🇩🇪 book review - deutsche Grammatik und Rechtschreibung Many people might not agree but I tend to like language books that use your target language to teach it. It might not be good for complete beginners, but after you get your basics, it seems to me like a perfect way to get immersed in your target language. This book is a pretty good book that covers all German grammar you need to know (and also the parts you don't have to know...). Would definitely recommend it, although not as a main learning material for German, as it only covers grammar. . #german #germany #austria #switzerland #deutsch #deutschland #österreich #schweiz #languages #languagelog #language #languagejam #languagejam #languagestudygram #languagelearning #linguistics #study #studygram #israel #jerusalem #grammatik #grammar #rechtschreibung

. . . . #traducciones #traductores  #translators  #translations #languages  #linguistics  #lenguajes #lenguaje  #communication #traduccionpublica #traductorespublicos #traductorapublica  #translators #freelancetranslator  #swontranslator #interpreters  #interpreter #teachenglish  #englishtips #englishvocabulary  #grammartips

Ha sido bastante difícil para mí filmar esto, pues lo hice con mi celular y no es de muy buena cámara como se puede admirar. La iluminación es un asco por la hora, o quizás sea por el lugar, no lo sé, pero en esto pueden ver un poco de mi nueva rutina. Ahora estoy pasando en limpio apuntes de Literatura y luego repasaré algunas lecturas. Igor Krupnik, a modern anthropologist, recorded ten different Inuit and Yupik dialects that include more words for snow than English. However, there are differences. “Matsaaruti” means wet snow, “pukak” means salt-like powder snow, and there are even more words for ice. Other northern cultures also have more varied words for snow and ice, and reindeer as well. Specialized language leads to specialized knowledge, and many of these people understand more about this than years of research will help an English speaker understand. So long as the world is becoming homogenous in lifestyle, specialized words will fade. Let’s preserve culture and the richness of its knowledge! PER ASPERA or HOW IT ALL BEGAN. [longread] ⠀ A scrawny sick kid, who would just stare at the wall for hours. Silently. Not a single word, she was reserved, weird and scaringly introverted. Yep, that kid was me. The 4-year-old me. ⠀ My Mum didn't know what to do and the perspective of a kinda retarded child (and a dependent grown-up) scared her immensely. She wanted to give me something, a skill that would feed me in the future. Her choice fell on English🇬🇧. ⠀ "At least she won't die of hunger, at least she'll teach English to a bunch of kids and will be independent", these were her thoughts. Well, Mum, thank you. For real❤️. ⠀ The thing is, Mum still doesn't speak English. ⠀ - How did she teach you then, Tony🙄? ⠀ Well...intuitively. Plus, Mum is a sorta perfectionist, it took her great effort to do what she did, and she did a bloody lot. ⠀ I hated it though. What's more, I got really scared of English and wanted to burn the shit down.😂 ⠀ 🤔❓What did she do to me, you'd ask. ⠀ 📜She made me learn fairy tales. By heart. (and at night she would translate them manually, word by word) 📻 She made me repeat what the speakers were saying in tape. Word-for-word, with the same pronunciation and intonation. (she spent hours beating the right pronunciation outta me) ✴️She punished my lazy ass every day and was very strict about English, even severe. (she wanted my stupid-ass brain to develop ASAP. Time was of the essence) ⠀ ☑️RESULT [by the age of 7]: ⠀ ✖️ I totally hated English. ✖️I was scared shitless, I couldn't speak up, I dreaded mistakes. ✔️BUT. I accumulated a massive vocabulary. I recited fairy tales and stories, because i knew them by heart. ✔️I could translate almost any text and get the general idea, even though i knew far fewer words than i do now. ✔️I had a pretty okay pronunciation for a Russian 7-year-old. ✔️I didn't know any shit about grammar, but I used basic grammar correctly. ⠀ Am I grateful? YES❤️! ⠀ Do I recommend this method to anyone? HELL NO😂. ⠀ ⚠️Hey, Parents! Find a TEACHER for your kid, folks. Spare your time. And your child's psyche.⚠️ ⠀_____________________________ Anyway. Would you like more personal stories? 🎩 - yes 🍆- no at Krasnodar Krai

Been using @naver_korean_dictionary daily conversation practice lately. I like how they are real life situations that can be applied to anyone. It also shows common grammar and new vocab. I also really like the listening quizzes because you get to do some dictation for extra practice! • Sometimes I feel kinda insecure about my feed. I know that all my photos look the same and the photos are really dark and dreary. However, I also love my feed because I can see my progress so clearly and objectively. When I scroll to my first photos I see a tiny baby Korean learner and I'm able to appreciate how far I've come. • I guess my main point is, when you post genuine photos of your studies (even if you're not proud of your photos) you can see your progress lay out right in front of you. So be proud of your account and your progress!
