PER ASPERA or HOW IT ALL BEGAN.
A scrawny sick kid, who would just stare at the wall for hours. Silently. Not a single word, she was reserved, weird and scaringly introverted. Yep, that kid was me. The 4-year-old me.
My Mum didn't know what to do and the perspective of a kinda retarded child (and a dependent grown-up) scared her immensely. She wanted to give me something, a skill that would feed me in the future. Her choice fell on English🇬🇧.
"At least she won't die of hunger, at least she'll teach English to a bunch of kids and will be independent", these were her thoughts. Well, Mum, thank you.
The thing is, Mum still doesn't speak English.
- How did she teach you then, Tony🙄?
Well...intuitively. Plus, Mum is a sorta perfectionist, it took her great effort to do what she did, and she did a bloody lot.
I hated it though. What's more, I got really scared of English and wanted to burn the shit down.😂
🤔❓What did she do to me, you'd ask.
📜She made me learn fairy tales. By heart. (and at night she would translate them manually, word by word)
📻 She made me repeat what the speakers were saying in tape. Word-for-word, with the same pronunciation and intonation. (she spent hours beating the right pronunciation outta me)
✴️She punished my lazy ass every day and was very strict about English, even severe. (she wanted my stupid-ass brain to develop ASAP. Time was of the essence)
☑️RESULT [by the age of 7]:
✖️ I totally hated English.
✖️I was scared shitless, I couldn't speak up, I dreaded mistakes.
✔️BUT. I accumulated a massive vocabulary. I recited fairy tales and stories, because i knew them by heart.
✔️I could translate almost any text and get the general idea, even though i knew far fewer words than i do now.
✔️I had a pretty okay pronunciation for a Russian 7-year-old.
✔️I didn't know any shit about grammar, but I used basic grammar correctly.
Am I grateful? YES❤️!
Do I recommend this method to anyone? HELL NO😂.
⚠️Hey, Parents! Find a TEACHER for your kid, folks. Spare your time. And your child's psyche.⚠️
Anyway. Would you like more personal stories?
🎩 - yes
